Can you get car finance with poor credit?

At Stoneacre, we understand that there are many reasons you may need to apply for car finance with poor credit. Whether you’ve missed payments or have little to no credit history, we can help you find a car within your means, no matter your circumstances.

It is possible to secure car finance with a poor credit score, even if you’ve faced financial difficulties in the past. We work with several lenders who focus on how affordable finance is for you now, increasing your chances of acceptance.

Stoneacre partners with a selection of specialist lenders who can offer poor credit car finance in several situations. While we can’t guarantee finance for everyone, we are proud to have a two-out-of-three approval rate for finance applications.

We are a credit broker and a lender. We can introduce you to a limited number of lenders and their finance products. We will provide details of products available, but no advice or recommendation will be made. You must decide whether the finance product is right for you. We do not charge you a fee for our services. Lenders will pay commission to us (either a fixed fee or a fixed percentage of the amount you borrow) for introducing you to them, this may be calculated in reference to a variable factor such as (but not limited to) the vehicle age, your credit score and the amount you are borrowing. Different lenders may pay different commissions for such introductions. Offers available to everyone over the age of 18, subject to credit approval.

What is a poor credit score?

Our lenders use data from Equifax, Experian, or TransUnion, and each Credit Reference Agency (CRA) has its own scoring system. This means there is no universal score for poor credit. For example, Experian scores out of 999, and a score below 500 may suggest you need to improve your credit.

Credit scores help lenders assess the risk of lending, with lower scores indicating higher risk, especially if there’s a history of missed payments. Even with poor credit, finance is possible, but you may face a higher  Annual Percentage Rate (APR), which reflects the increased risk to lenders by enabling them to recover their money faster.
