Another one of the Italian marque’s most iconic models, the new Fiat Panda is as brilliant as ever – and now in more forms than ever. The new Panda has been able to move with the times, but also stay true to itself and certainly hasn’t forgotten its roots.
Personality and flexibility are the primary concerns of the new Fiat Panda. The perky hatchback is as happy on the commute as it is transporting the family for a weekend away, with its roomy cabin and accessibility prime advantages.
A total of four iterations of Panda certainly help the cause, each one offering something slightly different to the last. The Panda City Car is the true original and is ideal for those who do most of their time navigating the streets of towns and cities, with the need for a bit of room for picking up the kids or doing the shopping. A pocket-sized SUV, the Panda City Cross ups the stakes with a rugged new look and a raised seating position to truly dominate the city landscape, plus a bit more.
All-wheel drive blesses the Panda 4X4, creating a practical and adventurous car which is as sturdy as it is manoeuvrable. The toughest member of the Panda family is the Panda Cross, a compact SUV which talks-the-talk and walks-the-walk, thanks in large to its heavy-duty approach to motoring.
To power the new Fiat Panda, an array of engine choices are available across the range, as are two transmission options.
The entry-level 1.2-litre petrol unit offers fuel economy of up to 55.4mpg and emits just 119g/km of CO2, while the more sophisticated 0.9-litre TwinAir offers more power and better efficiency – 85bhp, up to 67.3mpg and sub-100g/km.
The latter is available with Fiat’s Dualogic automatic transmission, while all 0.9-litre engines benefit from efficient Start&Stop technology.
On the Panda 4X4 and Panda Cross, a punchy 1.3-litre diesel option is available with 95bhp and economy of up to 62.8mpg.
Keeping your journey as fun as possible, the new infotainment unit means you can hook up your phone to the new Panda for audio streaming via Bluetooth, allowing you to play your favourite songs and charge your device at the same time.
Elsewhere, you’ll find the likes of ‘Mud&Snow’ tyres on the Panda 4X4 and Panda Cross, while the latter also offers the benefits of the all-terrain selector with three modes (Auto, Off-road and Hill Descent Control).
