Frequently Asked Questions

  • How do I book an MOT and service together?

To book an MOT and service online, simply enter your vehicle registration and mileage to receive a quote from Stoneacre. Once you have selected the service you would like to purchase, you will be able to add an MOT to your order at the discounted £39.95 price. To book your MOT and service we don't require any upfront payment, you simply request a booking and our servicing team will be in touch to confirm your booking.

  • How long does an MOT and service take?

Typically, an MOT takes no longer than an hour to complete and is often no longer than 45 minutes. A service can take anywhere between 3 to 5 hours depending on what service you have and whether or not you've authorised any additional repair work on the day. The vehicle technician servicing your car will likely give you an estimated time for service and will contact you once they've finished.

  • What do I need to bring on the day of my service and MOT?
    1. Vehicle log book - this is not a necessity but if you want the testing centre to stamp your log book to demonstrate a completed service you will need this with you
    2. Make sure any equipment provided with your car (i.e wheel keys) is kept in your vehicle for the technicians to access
    3. If possible, remove items like child seats and dash cams. These items can result in minor faults recorded on your MOT especially if tests are restricted or cannot be carried out.
  • What is the difference between an MOT and service?

An MOT is a mandatory test that is set by government for cars aged three years or older. It is set yearly to assess the safety of a vehicle for driving on UK roads. On the other hand, a service can be thought of as a set of detailed guidelines laid out by the manufacturer that are designed to help keep your car in its best performing condition. While a service is not a legal requirement like an MOT, it is highly recommended to keep you vehicle running properly and it will often be required in order to maintain the warranty of newly purchased vehicles.
