Audi introduced the A1 back in 2010 to meet the growing demand for smaller cars ideal for city living. Challenging its rivals the Audi A1 decided to focus less on fun and more on stylish sophistication. Since then it has become one of the most desirable superminis on the market and offers the premium quality you find in larger Audi models. Buying a used Audi A1 gives you the chance to own a great quality premium branded vehicle for less.

The Audi A1 hatchback is available as a 3 door or a 5 door Sportback version. The sloping roofline of the A1 does impact slightly on head height for rear passengers, however otherwise the Audi A1 is a decent size and offers adequate space. If you’re planning to regularly carry adult passengers in the back it may be worth opting for the 5 door Audi A1 Sportback.
The A1 offers 267L boot capacity which is bigger than some of its rivals. It also comes with the option to fold down the rear seats which creates around 920L of space, ideal should you need to carry bulkier items. However what may come as more of a surprise is the Audi A1’s impressive 1,200kg towing capability, which is perfect should you need to hook up a small trailer to take rubbish to the tip.
Attention has been paid to interior styling ensuring the A1 is in line with the Audi brand. There are soft touch materials, an elegant dashboard and solid controls. The interior is well insulated which helps to minimise road noise and creates a more pleasant drive experience, even when travelling at higher speeds. What’s more with a height adjustable driver’s seat and a steering wheel that adjusts for both height and rake, it’s possible to find a near perfect driving position.
As you’d expect from an Audi the A1 handles well and has responsive steering. The A1 is a completely versatile vehicle, its small size makes it great for nipping around town but it’s equally good gliding along on motorways.
Despite its small size the Audi A1 has scored well in Euro NCAP testing receiving a five-star rating. There’s generous amount of standard safety kit which includes, multiple airbags, ISOfix child seat fixings, seatbelt tensioners and integral headrests.
There are plenty of diesel and petrol engine options so finding an option that suits your lifestyle shouldn’t be a problem. The 1.6L diesel engine offers great running costs offering less than 100g/km CO2 tax is low and with 74.3mpg fuel capabilities you’ll get your money’s worth when you fill up. Diesel is the better option if you will be frequently travelling on motorways. However some of the petrol engines like the 1.4L offer a better blend of comfort and handling.
Servicing costs are more expensive than less premium brands but are similar to the Audi A3’s main rival MINI. If you take advantage of Audi’s service strategy you can reduce servicing costs by implementing minor and major services.
