Jeep has released details on its very first electrified model, the Jeep Renegade 4xe plug-in hybrid car. Bringing electric power to this legendary off-roading company enlivens the Renegade 4xe with a new sense of energy and off-road motoring prowess. With Jeep’s off-road pedigree it will come as no surprise that the new Jeep Renegade 4xe is available with its dynamic four-wheel-drive.
Jeep Renegade 4xe will take you anywhere
The new Jeep Renegade 4xe will come in three trim levels; Longitude, Limited and Trailhawk. Both Longitude and Limited models are set-up for driving in urban environments, while the Trailhawk model orientates to more rugged off-roading.
Power is transmitted to all four wheels via a six-speed automatic gearbox, while an updated Selec-Terrain rotary control engages different driving modes including Auto, Snow, Mud and Sand, Rock and brand new Sport setting.
Robust & dynamic
You can rest assured that none of the Renegade’s personality has been lost in the electrification process. In fact, the 4xe model looks almost visually identical to other Renegade variants. With subtle blue highlights, blue badging and a charging port push cover offering the only clue to the electric power housed within.
It does, however, feature new exterior paint colours for added appeal. Two new exclusive orange shades and a unique green hue are available on the top-spec Trailhawk models, so you can still enjoy making an impact wherever you’re heading.
A new powertrain
The electric motor is mounted on a modified version of 4WD Renegade’s rear subframe alongside the 1.3-litre four-cylinder turbo petrol engine and 11.4kWh battery. The powertrain is available in two different outputs depending on the variant you choose. The longitude and Limited models offer 187bhp, while the more potent Trailhawk model comes with 237bhp. Whichever model you opt for, you can enjoy plenty of power with 199lb ft of torque available. 0-62mph is possible in around 7.5 seconds and gives you an impressive 124mph top speed.
The Jeep Renegade 4xe is capable of up to 81mph on just electric power and can manage 26-miles. For most people, this is enough to enable them to commute solely on electric power, which should see you save a considerable amount at the pumps.
The battery is mounted in the floorpan’s centre tunnel and under the rear seats, resulting in a slight reduction in the size of the fuel tank. You can charge it via a simple domestic outlet, however, an optional wallbox charger provides faster charging. The wallbox charger has an intelligent charging system which can adapt charging capacity to avoid possible blackouts.
What’s more, the battery comes with a reassuring eight-year warranty giving you complete peace of mind in this new technology.
Inside has been designed to optimise comfort. As well as offering ample space for five and a generously sized boot, the Renegade 4xe offers versatile split-folding seats enabling you to enhance load capacity.
The interior design of the Renegade 4xe is marked by black accents which trace the air vents, speakers and centre console. However, if you opt for the Trailhawk model, and these come in a bright ruby red hue for more dynamic appeal.
To ensure your utmost convenience on-board, a seven-inch TFT colour display provides you with a crystal clear view of vital driving information. Jeep’s Uconnect system meanwhile, keeps you entertained and informed. Configured with an eight-inch touchscreen compatible with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone mirroring as standard, you get seamless connectivity. The touchscreen can display all the vehicles parameters; it keeps you informed about power usage and can even direct you to the nearest charging station should you wish to top-up charge.
What’s more, the Uconnect system works with the My Uconnect mobile app to allow remote interaction with your vehicle. So you can manage charging from the comfort of your own home.
Safe & secure
Jeep’s latest model features the same strong sense of protection inherent in all models. It features over 60 active and passive safety features, you can relax on journeys knowing that assistance is there should you need it. A full suite of driver-assistance incorporating functions like emergency braking, lane departure warning and driver drowsiness detection can act for you should you fail to react in time. You can enjoy the feeling of added reassurance wherever you are travelling.
The release of the Jeep Renegade 4xe PHEV marks the start of Jeep’s commitment to becoming one of the greenest and most sustainable off-roading companies. Jeep will also release a plug-in Hybrid Compass and Wrangler which will feature the same 4xe badge in the coming months.
