The all-new Kia Stonic is the South Korean manufacturer’s first foray into the small crossover market, and is certainly a fine effort. With great driveability and stylish SUV looks there’s a lot to love about the new Stonic.
The design of the Stonic is one that catches the eye; its handsome and contemporary lines tying in with Kia’s recent refresh of other models in its range, with features like Kia’s superb ‘Tiger’ grille. However it also benefits from a dose of SUV style with the addition of roof rails and a raised ride height.
Putting a spring in its step the new Stonic is the most customisable Kia to date. Choose from a great variety of body colours or even spec it with a contrasting roof for a more interesting visual appeal.
Practicality wise the new Stonic is equipped for adventure. With space for all the family plus a generous 352-litre capacity, you have enough space to pack up for every journey. Need to carry bulkier items? Don’t panic, fold down the rear seats to benefit from 1,155-litres.
There are just two models available the Stonic 2 or the First Edition. However, as ever with Kia, the standard level of kit is generous, so even the entry level 2 has plenty to offer. Full connectivity with Apple CarPlay or Android Auto via the seven-inch screen, so it’s easy to stay up to date. Plus rear parking sensors ensure you’ll have no bother parking up, while LED daytime running lights are an incredible extra feature.
Step up to the First edition for a touchscreen infotainment system with built-in sat nav complete with Traffic Messaging Channel (TMC). While alongside parking sensors you also get a rear reversing camera. In addition heated front seats will make sure every journey is a pleasure.
Safety wise as standard the Stonic comes with Hill-Start Assist and stability control. For additional peace of mind the First Edition comes with Autonomous Emergency Braking, Blind Spot Warning and Driver Attention Assist.
The 1.0-litre three-cylinder petrol engine offers great energy while still being cheap to run with a claimed 55mpg. However if you’re a regular motorway driver then you might prefer the 1.6-litre diesel engine which offers an impressive 67mpg and just 109g/km of CO2 emissions.
