The new Hyundai Kona is Hyundai’s brave entry into the small SUV crossover sector. With contemporary styling, extensive on-board equipment and enhanced performance, the brand new Kona was built to improve the daily commute.
The Kona’s design can certainly be described as expressive. At the cutting-edge of automotive design it pushes the boundaries of what we might expect a modern car to look like.
The new Hyundai Kona is available with a range of personalisation options. Externally, it is available in a wide-range of vibrant colours, including pulse red and acid yellow, so it’s easy to find a colour to reflect your style. While inside you get the choice of a selection of vibrant coloured dash accents.
The Hyundai Kona is available in five different trim levels; S, SE, Premium, Premium SE and Premium GT. Entry level S models get a five-inch monochrome display, DAB radio and Bluetooth. While for more kit, simply upgrade to SE trim to get a seven-inch touchscreen that is compatible with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Premium and above, meanwhile, get an advanced eight-inch touchscreen with built-in Satnav.
Practicality is a key aspect of the Kona’s appeal, with a spacious 334-litre boot (361 litres on the S models) and a possible 1,116 litres with the 60:40 rear seats folded down (1,143 litres on the S). In addition, the boot benefits from a low loading height and a large rear opening so you’ll find loading up completely hassle-free.
Despite being an SUV, the Kona is easy to manoeuvre especially since SE and above models come with rear parking sensors and a reversing camera as standard. Premium SE models get front parking sensors too. Other features include wireless phone charging, a head-up display, and eight-speaker sound system making the Kona is a very capable all-round car.
Eager and fun to drive, the new Hyundai Kona is available with a 1.6-litre diesel engine as well as two petrol engines; a 1.0-litre three-cylinder and a 1.6-litre four-pot engine.
The Kona is also equipped with great selection of safety options to ensure everyone on-board stays safe. On-board assistance includes driver fatigue monitoring, lane-keeping assistance, hill-hold and hill-descent control while more premium versions also benefit from blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert and autonomous emergency braking. So, unsurprisingly, it scored top marks in Euro NCAP testing with a full five-star rating.
