How Does the New Honda CR-V Plug-in Hybrid Perform?
The e:PHEV system pairs a 2.0-litre petrol engine producing 144ps with an electric motor delivering 184ps and 335Nm of torque. Because the electric motor does most of the driving, torque arrives instantly, and the car feels responsive from a standstill rather than building up to it.
That gives 0-62mph in around 9 seconds and a top speed of 121mph, so joining a motorway or completing an overtake takes no planning.
Six drive modes cover every situation: EV, ECON, NORMAL, SPORT, SNOW and TOW. EV mode runs on battery power alone, ECON stretches efficiency further on longer runs, and TOW mode adjusts the powertrain and stability systems when you have a trailer on the back.
Charge it overnight and most of your everyday driving runs on electricity rather than petrol. In official testing, the CR-V Plug-in Hybrid returned over 300mpg, a figure that starts from a full battery and shows just how far the car gets before the petrol engine is needed at all.
How Do You Charge the Honda CR-V Plug-in Hybrid?
The CR-V Plug-in Hybrid uses a Type 2 charging port and a 6.8kW single-phase on-board charger. A full charge from empty takes approximately 2.5 hours on a 6.8kW home wallbox, or around 7.7 hours from a standard 2.3kW domestic socket. Charge times vary with temperature and the charge point you use.
That makes overnight charging straightforward. Plug in when you get home, and you start every morning on a full battery, with the school run and the commute covered on electricity rather than fuel.
Charging is managed through the My Honda+ app, so you can schedule a session to run on a cheaper overnight tariff and check the battery status from your phone before you leave the house.
The 17.7kWh lithium-ion battery uses active heating and cooling, which keeps charging performance consistent through a British winter rather than tailing off in the cold.
What's Inside the New Honda CR-V Plug-in Hybrid?
The cabin seats five, with full leather upholstery, heated front seats, a heated leather steering wheel, a panoramic glass roof and reclining rear seats. The glass roof in particular makes a difference to how open the interior feels, especially for rear passengers.
Boot capacity runs to 617 litres with the seats up, 1,100 litres loaded to the window and 1,710 litres loaded to the roof, with a 60/40 split rear bench and a handsfree power tailgate with kick sensor and walk away close. That covers a full family shop, a buggy and weekend bags without a second trip, and the kick sensor earns its keep when both hands are full.

Honda SENSING 360 comes as standard on both grades, using cameras and radar to build a full picture of what is happening around the car rather than just ahead of it.
Adaptive Cruise Control with cornering speed assist holds your motorway speed and eases off through bends. Traffic Jam Assist takes the strain out of stop-start queues. Lane Keeping Assist, Lane Departure Warning and Active Lane Change Assist handle lane discipline, while Blind Spot Information with Cross Traffic Monitor and Front Cross Traffic Warning cover the angles your mirrors miss when changing lanes or pulling out of a junction.
Collision Mitigation Braking, Forward Collision Warning and Road Departure Mitigation act if you do not, and a Driver Monitoring Camera and Driver Attention Monitor watch for signs you are losing focus.
For parking, twelve sensors cover the front, rear and sides, backed by a Multi View Camera and Honda Parking Pilot, which manoeuvres the car into a space for you. Trailer Stability Assist is also fitted, working alongside the TOW mode when you are pulling a load.
