The automotive landscape is changing rapidly, with sales of Electric Cars (EVs) quickly gathering pace as we get closer to 2035 when all petrol and diesel vehicles will cease production.
As a result, the types of cars you’ll see available on the Motability Scheme will gradually change, too.
Even today, we have multiple electric cars on the Motability Scheme available from an array of manufacturers - each offering the same all-inclusive package you benefit from with a Motability Scheme car.
But with EVs, this goes one step further - each Motability Scheme electric car is offered with a free home charger as part of the package.

Ordering your first EV through the Motability Scheme? Then part of your all-inclusive leasing package will be to install a home charger if you have off-street parking available.
Once your application has been accepted, one of the Motability Scheme’s approved charge point installers, Ohme or Easee, will be allocated to you. The 7kW charge point will be explained in full by the installer, including the process of where it needs to go and how it will need to be hooked up to your home’s electricity.
While the charge point and core installation is free of charge, it could be that extra requirements exist. For instance, around one in five Motability Scheme customers will need to discuss having an isolation switch fitted with their energy supplier.
Additionally, if any work is required to gain access to your electricity supply, you will be responsible for any costs associated with this. You also need to seek permission to have the charge point installed if you do not own your home or if it is a flat or leasehold.
Can’t have an EV charger fitted?
If you’re not in a position to have an electric car charge point installed at your property, the Motability Scheme is able to give you access to the BP Pulse network.
A comprehensive source of over 9,000 discounted or free EV charge points across the whole of the UK will be available to you. Of these, over 3,000 are rapid and ultra-fast pulse points.
These charge points can be found to top up your electric car’s battery in numerous types of locations, including supermarket and hotel car parks, among many other popular and convenient spots.
