The End of Compromise
For years, electric SUVs have asked buyers to make difficult choices. Family-friendly size meant limited range. Long-distance capability meant premium prices. This three-way compromise between range, size, and price has held back mass EV adoption.
This January, Volvo Cars revealed the EX60 and declared this era over. The Volvo EX60 targets the mid-size SUV segment, the most popular vehicle category globally.
This isn’t just another luxury car. It’s designed to eliminate the remaining obstacles to choosing electric over petrol. It combines Swedish engineering with advanced technology whilst addressing the price barrier through three powertrain options.
Breaking the Range Barrier
The P12 AWD variant delivers up to 503 miles of WLTP range. This puts the EX60 on par with the long-range diesel vehicles that have dominated European motorways for decades. It’s no longer just about beating other EVs.
The design is exceptionally aerodynamic, slipping through the air with minimal resistance thanks to a low front profile and sloping roofline. This efficiency is what transforms range from a concern into a comfort.
Budget-conscious buyers have solid options too. The P10 AWD offers up to 410 miles, whilst the rear-wheel-drive P6 delivers up to 385 miles. “With this car, we remove all remaining obstacles for going electric,” says Håkan Samuelsson, CEO of Volvo Cars.

Ultra-Fast Charging
Range matters, but so does charging speed. The EX60 supports 400kW fast-charging, which addresses the main frustration with electric vehicles: waiting time. This capability fundamentally changes the long-distance driving experience.
The P12 variant adds up to 211 miles of range in 10 minutes. That’s roughly the time for a coffee stop and a quick stretch on a motorway journey. It’s fast enough to fit seamlessly into your existing travel routine.
By the time you return to the car, you’ve added enough range to cross several counties. The charging speed means you can plan journeys around your needs, not around charging infrastructure.
Gemini AI Integration
The EX60 uses the “HuginCore” system, developed with NVIDIA and Qualcomm Technologies Inc. The standout feature is Google’s Gemini AI, which handles voice commands differently.
Instead of rigid commands, Gemini understands natural conversation. You can speak normally rather than memorising specific phrases. This makes the system feel more like an assistant than a tool.
The audio system features 28 Bowers & Wilkins speakers with headrest speakers in all four main seats. It’s the first Volvo to include Apple Music and Dolby Atmos Spatial Audio as standard.

Manufacturing Innovation
The Volvo EX60 uses the SPA3 platform. This employs advanced manufacturing techniques to create lighter, simpler structures with fewer parts. The result is a carbon footprint comparable to the much smaller Volvo EX30.
SPA3 also enables faster, more affordable introduction of advanced features. The modular approach means new technology can reach mid-size vehicles more quickly. This makes cutting-edge features accessible without premium pricing.
The confidence in this new platform shows in the warranty. Volvo backs the EX60 with a comprehensive 10-year battery warranty. This level of coverage demonstrates the manufacturer’s conviction in the long-term reliability and durability of the technology.
Volvo EX60 Cross Country
Volvo launched the original Cross Country in 1997 as a more rugged take on its estate cars. The EX60 Cross Country brings that heritage into the electric era, dressed in Frost Green paint inspired by Scandinavian landscapes.
This variant sits 20mm higher than the standard EX60. Air suspension can raise it another 20mm for off-road driving, then lower it again at motorway speeds to improve aerodynamics and preserve range.
Brushed stainless steel skid plates and wider wheel arches give it a muscular, confident appearance. “The EX60 Cross Country is for anyone with a ‘go anywhere’ attitude,” says Erik Severinson, Chief Commercial Officer at Volvo.

The Future is Mid-Size
The Volvo EX60 meets family requirements without the usual EV compromises. It doesn’t limit your travel plans or ask you to sacrifice practicality for environmental benefits. It simply works as a versatile SUV that happens to be electric.
Production begins this spring in Sweden. The specifications speak clearly: up to 503 miles of range, 211 miles added in 10 minutes, and mainstream pricing.
The EX60 sets a new standard for the mid-sized SUV segment, the world’s most popular vehicle category, combining advanced technology with everyday versatility. Ready to experience the future of electric driving? Register your interest today!
