The Dacia Sandero and Sandero Stepway are now available with hybrid power, bringing electric-assisted driving and automatic convenience to two of the UK’s most affordable new cars – with orders opening on 4 November 2026.
The new hybrid 155 powertrain can deliver up to 80% of urban driving on electric power alone. It also promises up to 40% lower fuel consumption than an equivalent petrol engine, without requiring drivers to plug in or change their driving habits.
This gives buyers the benefits of electrification while retaining the practicality, accessible pricing and straightforward appeal that have made the Sandero range so successful.

Electric driving without the need to plug in
The hybrid 155 system combines a 1.8-litre four-cylinder petrol engine with two electric motors. A 1.4kWh battery stores electrical energy, while an electrified automatic gearbox manages the power delivery.
Everything works automatically, so there’s no need for drivers to select between petrol and electric modes. Both cars start in electric mode, and Dacia says they can complete up to 80% of urban driving using electric power alone.
That should make the cars particularly appealing to drivers who regularly tackle stop-start traffic or shorter journeys around town.
The system also uses regenerative braking to recover energy when slowing down. That energy returns to the battery, helping keep it charged during normal driving.
The improved efficiency should also help drivers spend less on fuel during everyday journeys. That makes the hybrid system an appealing option for motorists looking to reduce running costs without adding charging stops to their routine.
More responsive performance and automatic convenience
Efficiency is only part of the appeal. The new powertrain also gives both models a useful performance boost.
The petrol engine works alongside the two electric motors, with the transmission choosing the most suitable combination automatically. Its clutchless design uses four gears for petrol power and two for electric operation.
The electric motor can also provide an immediate response when pulling away. This should help make everyday driving smoother, particularly in busy urban conditions.
Both the Sandero hybrid 155 and Sandero Stepway hybrid 155 can accelerate from 0-62mph in 8.3 seconds.
That gives the new versions a lively turn of pace while retaining the straightforward driving experience that has helped make the Sandero range so popular.
Distinct characters across the line-up
Sandero: Expression and Journey
The standard Sandero keeps things focused on value and everyday practicality. Buyers can choose between Expression and Journey trim levels.
Expression models receive a 10-inch touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Other standard equipment includes air conditioning, cruise control, automatic lights and wipers, Bluetooth and a reversing camera.
Journey adds a stronger technology and comfort package. Highlights include a seven-inch digital driver display, connected navigation and an upgraded six-speaker Arkamys audio system.
Heated front seats and a heated steering wheel also feature. There’s automatic air conditioning, keyless entry, wireless smartphone charging and a Multiview camera.
Sandero Stepway: a more rugged alternative
The Sandero Stepway takes a more rugged approach. Its crossover-inspired styling, raised ride height and increased ground clearance give it a tougher appearance.
Stepway: Expression and Extreme trims
Extreme models gain additional equipment, including Extended Grip, Blind Spot Warning and a Multiview camera. Copper Brown exterior details add a distinctive finishing touch.
The Stepway also features modular roof bars. These can be quickly reconfigured when extra carrying space is needed.
Practicality remains a key selling point
Adding hybrid technology hasn’t come at the expense of everyday usability.
Both models offer 410 litres of boot space with the rear seats in place. Fold those seats down and capacity increases to 1,455 litres.
A maximum braked towing capacity of 1,100kg also comes as standard across the hybrid range. That gives owners some extra flexibility for carrying trailers or other equipment.
The Stepway offers another advantage when driving away from smooth tarmac. Its 200mm ground clearance provides additional room underneath the car, making it better suited to rougher tracks and uneven surfaces.
These practical touches help keep the two models relevant to drivers who need more than an economical runabout.

A new reason to consider Dacia
The arrival of hybrid power marks an important step for the Sandero range. It brings technology already used elsewhere in Dacia’s line-up to two of its most accessible models.
For buyers, the appeal is relatively simple. They get electric assistance around town, automatic transmission and the prospect of reduced fuel consumption. There’s no need to change their driving habits or install home charging equipment.
The choice between the two models also remains clear. The Sandero prioritises affordability and everyday value, while the Stepway adds a more adventurous design and greater ground clearance.
With their combination of hybrid efficiency, practical interiors and accessible pricing, the new models give buyers even more reasons to put Dacia on their shortlist.
