PEUGEOT has unveiled a breathtaking masterpiece that bridges motorsport glory with modern electric innovation. The PEUGEOT E-T16 CONCEPT celebrates the 40th anniversary of the legendary 205 T16’s back-to-back World Rally Championship victories in 1985 and 1986.
This is not simply a nostalgic tribute. The French brand has created an entirely new category: the hyperhatch. Developed alongside PEUGEOT SPORT, this futuristic concept combines a ferocious stance with extraordinary performance and cutting-edge digital technology. It promises pure driving emotion while offering a tantalising vision of the next-generation E-208.

Unprecedented Power from PEUGEOT SPORT
The heart of the E-T16 CONCEPT delivers truly mind-boggling capability. It stands as the most powerful road-legal PEUGEOT in history, outmatched only by the legendary 208 T16 Pikes Peak prototype.
Its tri-motor setup features one electric motor on the front axle and two at the rear. Together, they produce a colossal 805 bhp. Thanks to a lightweight design, the car boasts an incredible power-to-weight ratio of less than 2 kg per horsepower.
- 0 to 62 mph: 2.5 seconds
- 0 to 186 mph: 16.0 seconds
This electric powertrain translates to raw, instant speed. The concept blasts from 0 to 62 mph in just 2.5 seconds. Keep your foot planted, and it sweeps from 0 to 186 mph in an extraordinary 16 seconds.
To manage all that power, PEUGEOT SPORT integrated a sophisticated torque vectoring system. It actively balances torque between all four wheels and across both axles in real time. Drivers can select from three main driving modes to tailor power delivery, suspension stiffness, and torque distribution. A track mode unlocks maximum performance, while a fourth mode lets drivers customise every setting.
Stopping power is equally aggressive. The concept relies on four huge 380 mm disc brakes, wide Michelin tyres (275 mm front, 315 mm rear), and a vertically mounted hydraulic handbrake designed for sharp rally-style turns.

Track-Ready Cooling and Rapid Charging
Sustained battery performance remains a challenge for high-output electric vehicles. PEUGEOT SPORT solved this issue by adapting advanced thermal management straight from motorsport.
The E-T16 CONCEPT uses innovative Side Cooling technology. Instead of cooling the lithium battery cells from the base, the system channels coolant through their side walls. This drastically reduces thermal strain and prevents power derating during intense driving sessions. As a result, the hyperhatch can conquer three full laps of the demanding Nürburgring Nordschleife—over 38 miles—at full performance without losing a single horsepower.
Despite its track-honed pedigree, the car remains easy to use every day. The 800V electrical architecture works alongside an 85 kWh battery to provide up to 248 miles of WLTP combined range. When plugged into a DC fast charger, it tops up from 10% to 80% in less than 15 minutes.
Radical Design Meets Iconic Heritage
Visually, the E-T16 CONCEPT fuses classic 1980s rally style with the new PEUGEOT Feline Future design language. It pays homage to the original 205 T16 while offering a clear preview of the upcoming E-208.
- Body Colour: Winchester Matte Grey (matches original 205 T16 shade)
- Accent Line: Backlit red perimeter stripe (echoes classic GTi red pinstripe)
- Side Intake: Houses charging port and door switch (formerly fed engine combustion air)
- Lighting Signature: Horizontal three-claw LED bars (introduces PEUGEOT Feline Future design)
- Rear Section: Entire rear body tilts open (displays electric motors and suspension)
The concept asserts a low, muscular stance. Pronounced wheel arches, an aggressively sculpted bonnet, and massive air intakes command attention. At the back, a twin diffuser with adjustable aero blades works alongside a distinct cat-ear rear wing to press the chassis into the tarmac.
In a dramatic nod to its rally ancestors, the entire rear section tilts upwards. Opening it exposes the tubular roll cage, dynamic chassis components, and twin rear motors mounted on a structural carbon-fibre platform.

A Driver-Centric Digital Cockpit
Step inside, and the cabin delivers an immersive, motorsport-inspired atmosphere. The interior debuts the next generation of the PEUGEOT Digital i-Cockpit®, centered around an innovative steer-by-wire system.
The standout feature is the Hypersquare® steering control, directly inspired by the PEUGEOT 9X8 endurance racer. It replaces the traditional steering wheel and features a central display for speed and lap timing. Driver controls are positioned right at your fingertips, allowing adjustments without taking your hands off the grip points.
A sleek 21-inch curved panoramic display sits in the driver’s line of sight, combining instrument gauges and infotainment into a single housing. Carbon fibre, anodised aluminium, and technical mesh cover the interior surfaces. Deep bucket seats feature four-point harnesses and come upholstered in PELINOVA®, a sustainable material crafted from recycled leather offcuts. A vibrant red headliner fades into black, casting a sporty glow over the entire cabin.
The Future of Electric Performance
The PEUGEOT E-T16 CONCEPT proves that zero-emission motoring can be thrilling, emotional, and intensely practical. By marrying iconic rally heritage with high-tech electric power, PEUGEOT has set an exciting new benchmark for hyperhatches.
