Types of Hybrid Car

Choosing a hybrid car for your Motability vehicle takes a bit more thought than if you were to look at EVs, as there are various types to consider.

Mild Hybrid (MHEV) - this is the most asic form of a hybrid car, where the engine is aided by a small electric motor. There is no charging required, as energy is generated every time the vehicle brakes.

Full/Self-Charging Hybrid (FHEV) - for those that want a decent hybrid experience without having to charge the vehicle, then a Full or Self-Charging Hybrid on Motability will be for you. This is a good choice for Motability users who cover plenty of miles, as the electric motor will be automatically recharged by the engine on the move.

Plug-In Hybrid (PHEV) - the closest you can get to a full EV whilst still having an engine, a PHEV requires separate charging at home or in a public space to make the most out of the hybrid setup. You’ll also be able to run on electric-only power with zero emissions for short, commutable distances (usually up to about 50 miles).
