Unveiled at the Nissan Vision event in Japan, the all-electric Nissan JUKE represents a bold leap forward for one of Europe’s most successful compact crossovers. Building on fifteen years of electric vehicle (EV) expertise, this third-generation model combines the JUKE’s signature unconventional design with zero-emission mobility, ready to hit British roads in spring 2027.

A Fun and Nimble Driving Experience
Nissan is keen to ensure that the transition to electric power does not come at the cost of driver engagement.
Jordi Vila, a key figure in Nissan’s regional strategy, explained that the tuning of the vehicle is being specifically adapted for its segment. He noted that the JUKE is not only disruptive from a style standpoint, but it is also designed to be very interesting and fun to drive.
Expect a more nimble and agile experience compared to the larger Leaf, perfectly suited for navigating tight city streets or winding country lanes.
Power and Performance: The Technical Heart of the JUKE EV
While the design remains a closely guarded secret, we now have a much clearer picture of what will sit beneath the skin of the new JUKE. Nissan is leveraging its fifteen years of electric vehicle (EV) leadership to ensure the JUKE is as capable as it is stylish.
The JUKE EV will share several key components with the upcoming third-generation Leaf, including the innovative three-in-one power unit. This clever system combines the motor, inverter, and gearbox into a single, compact module. While the larger Leaf offers power outputs of 174bhp and 215bhp, experts expect the JUKE’s version to be slightly detuned to better suit its smaller footprint and ensure maximum efficiency.
Battery Technology and Range
Drivers will have a choice between standard and long-range battery options, ensuring there is a model to suit both city commuters and long-distance travellers. The battery technology is world-class, featuring:
- Liquid-cooled NMC (Nickel Manganese Cobalt) batteries: This advanced chemistry offers excellent energy density and thermal management.
- Right-sized capacities: While the 4.35m-long Leaf utilises 52kWh and 75kWh batteries, the JUKE EV (which measures approximately 4.2m in length) will feature batteries specifically tailored to its lighter, more compact frame.
- Vehicle-to-Grid (V2G) capability: Like its sibling the Leaf, the JUKE will support V2G technology, allowing the car to act as a mobile energy hub for the wider energy ecosystem.

A Flexible Path Toward Full Electrification
The all-electric JUKE is part of a broader strategy to offer an electrified powertrain for every type of customer. Nissan is navigating a complex market by offering a variety of options. For those not yet ready to make the jump to a full battery electric vehicle (BEV), Nissan continues to champion its e-POWER hybrid technology.
Models like the Qashqai e-POWER and the current JUKE Hybrid (HEV) provide an EV-like driving experience without the requirement for plug-in charging. This flexible path ensures that every customer can find a technology that fits their current needs.
Built in Britain: The Sunderland Powerhouse
In news that will be welcomed across the UK automotive sector, Nissan confirmed that the all-new, all-electric JUKE will be manufactured at the Sunderland Plant. This facility is already the cornerstone of Nissan’s European manufacturing footprint and currently produces the LEAF.
The first trial phases for JUKE production are scheduled to begin in the coming weeks. This commitment highlights the importance of the UK as a hub for both innovation and production. With design, engineering, and development teams spread across the UK, Spain, and Germany, the new JUKE is a vehicle designed in Europe, for European customers.
Massimiliano Messina, Chairman of Nissan AMIEO, reinforced this commitment by stating that Europe is central to the company’s global strategy. He emphasised that the next generation of vehicles will be powered by a strong regional footprint, accelerating the transition to a fully electric future.

Looking Ahead to 2027
The wait for this electric pioneer will not be much longer. With its blend of daring design, right-sized battery technology, and a focus on driving pleasure, the 2027 JUKE is set to redefine the compact crossover once again. Nissan is proving that the future of driving can be both responsible and exhilarating.
Whether you are a long-time JUKE enthusiast or a driver looking to make your first move into the world of EVs, the all-electric JUKE promises to be a game-changer on British roads.
