Six Benefits of Motability

23 Jan 2020 by Megan Maxwell

Motability is an affordable all-inclusive leasing package which enables disabled people, their families and carers to regain independence and become more mobile.

The Motability scheme was set up to ensure that disabled people who have difficulty getting about have access to a safe, reliable and affordable car. But how exactly can it help achieve this? We take a look at some of the benefits to help you decide if the Scheme is right for you.

1. One Simple Monthly Payment

The Motability Scheme offers you comprehensive all-inclusive motoring, so all you have to worry about is fuelling up. All of your car’s other maintenance costs and insurance are covered. This includes servicing, repairs, tax, breakdown cover and insurance for up to two named drivers.

Should you have any issues with the car, all you have to do is get in touch with the branch you got it from, and they will be able to help. This ensures Motability offers completely hassle-free motoring.

2. A New Car Every Three Years

To ensure that your Motability car offers good value for money, you can get a new Motability car every three-years. Regularly changing your vehicle helps to ensure that you benefit from the latest technology and the most efficient engine options. This allows you to enjoy more seamless journeys and profit from lower running costs. Changing your car every three years also means that you don’t have the worries of running and maintaining an older car.

With Motability the mileage is usually capped at 60,000 miles (20,000 miles per year), so bear in mind if you go over this you may be liable to additional charges per mile covered.

3. Motability Car Options to Suit Your Budget

The Motability Scheme offers an affordable way for disabled people to access a vehicle. The payment for the car is usually taken directly from your Motability allowance.

If you choose a car that costs less than your allowance, the remainder of your allowance can be used however you see fit (so it could pay for the fuel to get you out and about).

However, if you choose a car that costs more than your allowance you may need to make an advance payment on the car. It is worth noting that depending on your circumstances you may also be eligible for help paying this advance payment.

Here at Stoneacre, we have a wide range of Motability cars available from our leading manufacturers. From chic city cars to stylish SUVs choosing a Motability car no longer means compromising on style. In fact, we’ve put together an infographic showcasing the ten most stylish Motability cars currently on the market.

There are models to suit a variety of budgets, so we’re confident that you’ll find a car that suits your requirements.

4. A Car Adapted to Your Needs

Depending on your disability you may need specific adaptations to truly get your freedom back. This may range from adapted controls and raised seating to changes to the stowage and fitting devices which will help enable you to load and carry different aids.

Luckily through the Motability scheme, you are able to access a range of different adaptations. The most common adaptations areas are access, stowage, seating and driving controls.

At Stoneacre, we have trained Motability specialists in our branches who are able to offer advice and guidance about the adaptations that might work best for your needs. Many adaptations can be made completely free of charge through the Motability Scheme to open up a wealth of possibilities.

5. Increased Freedom and Independence

Arguably the biggest benefit of Motability is that it will help you regain your freedom and independence. Having access to a car can help to make day-to-day life easier and allow you to live life to the fullest.

It doesn’t matter if you can’t drive either, as with the Motability Scheme you can nominate up to two named drivers on the insurance. You needn’t always be in the car either; the scheme appreciates that the benefits of your family/carer having a car extend beyond just getting you from a-to-b. They may need to pop to the shops or head to the chemists for your medication, so as long as the journey is of benefit to you, any named driver on the insurance can drive the car.

6. Assistance When You Need It

Our Motability specialists are with you every step of the way. Not only will they help you with the initial purchase of a new car, but they are always on hand to help throughout your lease. This means should you experience any issues with your car or have any questions about your Motability lease you can simply get in touch.
