Fiat 500 City Car

The third-generation Fiat 500 is the most revolutionary to date. With a 199-mile electric range, the latest release from Fiat is ready for next-generation motoring.

Similarly styled to the revival Fiat 500 which was re-launched back in 2007, the newest model still packs in the iconic retro details which have key to the success of the 500.

However, under the skin of the new Fiat 500 city car, it’s all change. Using the new Fiat-Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) architecture increases the size of the 500 by 6cm in both length and width, taking it to 3.63m long and 1.69m wide. While the 4cm added to the overall height of the model helps to increase the feeling of spaciousness on board by improving headroom.

Pure Electric Power

A car ready for the next decade the new Fiat 500 is ‘all-electric and only electric’. A 117bhp electric motor is teamed with a 42kWh lithium-ion battery pack for an impressive WLTP range of 199 miles. With significantly greater range than its closest rivals, it indicates Fiat’s commitment to electric motoring.

Far from limiting performance, with the new electric Fiat 500 0-62mph is achievable 9 seconds.  More importantly, power is delivered as soon as you put your foot on the pedal, with a brisk 0-31mph time of just 3.1 seconds.

Top speed is limited at 93mph although this is curbed significantly to 50mph when the most eco-focused driving mode ‘Sherpa’ is selected. It reduces power, throttle response, top speed and switches off climate control and other ancillary electronics to enhance range.

The two other driving modes ‘Normal’ and ‘Range’ offer less restricted driving. ‘Normal’ allows you to get about without any restrictions, while ‘Range’ boosts the regenerative braking to such an extent you can almost drive using just one pedal.

Fiat has equipped the new 500 with a unique legally mandated low-speed acoustic warning. It’s taken from Nina Rota’s score for the film Amarcord, so certainly helps ensure you stand out.

Compatible with an 85kWh rapid-charging system, you can recharge the battery from empty up to 80% capacity within just 35 minutes. Or for a quicker boost, you can add 31 miles by charging for just five minutes.

La Prima launch edition models will come bundled with a Fiat-branded wall-charging unit that offers 3kW charging but can be upgraded to a 7.4kW charger for quicker charge times.

Fiat 500 City Car Sleek Interior

Fiat has overhauled the interior of the new Fiat 500 city car, bringing it up to date. The dashboard is wider, and switchgear has been minimised for a cleaner, sleeker look. It features FCA’s new UConnect 5 infotainment system which is controlled by a 10.25-inch touchscreen and puts a host of advanced features like satnav, Wi-Fi hotspot and wireless Apple CarPlay at your fingertips.

As mentioned, interior space has increased slightly, and since the battery is floor-mounted, it doesn’t impinge on the comfort of your journey. While helping to ensure journeys are even safer, the electric Fiat 500 will come with a range of automated driving technologies including adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assist and a 360-degree parking system.

Available first as a convertible model with a sliding-top fabric roof, a hardtop will follow shortly after. If you’re keen to be the first to get behind the wheel of this next-generation motoring icon, why not register your interest with your nearest Stoneacre Fiat showroom?
