Scheduled for arrival in the UK next month, the 2024 Mazda MX-5 undergoes an exterior redesign, marking the first change in the appearance of Mazda’s acclaimed sports car since the introduction of the current generation MX-5 in 2015. The subtle alterations include a fresh LED headlight design now incorporating the daytime running lights, along with redesigned rear LED lights. Additionally, a new Aero Grey paint option joins the MX-5 lineup.

MX-5 Models and Engines

Comprising eight models, the range offers four Roadster and four RF variants, each available in Prime-Line, Exclusive-Line, and Homura trim levels. Prime-Line models are equipped with the 132ps 1.5-litre Skyactiv-G engine, while Exclusive-Line variants offer a choice between the 1.5-litre and the 184ps 2.0-litre Skyactiv-G engine. The range-topping Homura exclusively pairs with the 184ps unit. Prices for the 2024 Mazda MX-5 range start at £28,000 for the 1.5-litre Prime-Line Roadster.

Continuing from the previous model, 2.0-litre cars come standard with a front strut brace, limited slip differential, and Bilstein dampers. The 2024 MX-5 introduces a new Asymmetric Limited Slip Differential, featuring a cam mechanism added to the conical clutch. This lightweight and compact mechanism offers enhanced slip limiting force, optimising stability during cornering and maintaining the MX-5’s renowned handling balance.

Inside, drivers will notice upgrades including a larger 8.8-inch central touch-screen multimedia display and an updated instrument panel. The enhanced central screen improves navigation clarity, while the advanced MZ Connect system enhances user functionality. USB-C ports have also been introduced. Despite these updates, the 2024 Mazda MX-5 retains its driver-focused cabin and driving position. The range-topping Homura grade now features Recaro seats trimmed in leather and Alcantara.

Throughout its more than three-decade history spanning four generations, the Mazda MX-5 has consistently epitomised the pure lightweight sports car, prioritising driver engagement. This Jinba Ittai philosophy, emphasising harmony between driver and machine, remains central to every Mazda, particularly the Mazda MX-5. The 2024 model continues to deliver pure open-top driving pleasure while upholding its core values of agility, lightweight construction, and finely balanced handling.

Exclusive-Line and Homura models now feature a new Dynamic Stability Control (DSC) track driving mode, designed to provide a more dynamic yet secure driving experience, particularly for first-time track drivers. Further refining the MX-5’s performance, accelerator response has been improved for more accurate throttle application, while adjustments to the electric power steering and reduction of steering rack friction deliver a more natural and fluid driving feel, strengthening the connection between driver and road.
