Lexus Hybrid and Electric Cars

SELF-CHARGING HYBRID

How does Hybrid work?

The Lexus Hybrid Drive system has been providing low running costs and efficient motoring since its introduction back in 2006. Since this time, technology has been refined significantly.

Like most hybrids, the Lexus Hybrid Drive combines two power sources - a petrol-driven combustion engine and a battery-powered electric motor.

A Lexus Hybrid Drive model is comprised of six key components: the engine, electric motor, an electric generator, a battery, power control unit, and a power split device.

This final component intelligently distributes power between the motor, engine, and generator, and through monitoring driving conditions switches between the electric motor and the petrol engine for the most efficient performance.

If you're thinking about making a change and moving into a BEV (battery electric vehicle) to put on your driveway for the first time, you now have more options than what was on offer 10 years ago. Hybrid and electric cars are greener than internal combustion engine vehicles by several key measures, with the exception of the carbon intensity of the manufacturing process.

Electric cars are greener than internal combustion engine vehicles by a number of key measures, with the exception of the carbon intensity of the manufacturing process.

As EVs become more mainstream, the costs are dropping rapidly and there are a wide variety of benefits for drivers making the switch.

From the environmental impact to the savings you can make on fuel, tax and maintenance costs, electric vehicles could help you save significant amounts of money.

On a cost per mile basis, a fully electric car could cost you a quarter or less of what a traditional petrol or diesel car might.

These savings quickly add up, see how much you could save on each journey when driving an EV by using our special Journey Cost Calculator below.
