This technology has been developed to help your car enhance its fuel\neconomy, reduce emissions and have longer service intervals.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>What does TSi stand for?<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Bit of a weird one, this, as TSi stands for \u2018Turbo\nStratified Injection\u2019, AKA a turbocharged petrol engine. This is an evolution\nof the TFSi range of engines, improving upon the previous technology to again\nenhance those key requirements you want from a modern powerplant, as well as\noffering a bit of a performance boost thanks to that turbo.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>What does TFSi stand for?<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>As just touched on, TFSi is an older generation\nof engine technology from the VW group, now improved in TSi form. Those four\nletters stand for \u2018Turbo Fuel Stratified Injection\u2019.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image aligncenter size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.stoneacre.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/07\/image-2022-07-04T140157.480.jpg\" alt=\"SEAT Leon TDI adn TSI\" class=\"wp-image-11400\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">Ford EcoBoost and EcoBlue<\/span><\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Let\u2019s start with Ford\u2019s EcoBoost petrol tech first, and we\u2019ll\nbegin with a stat: the 1.0-litre EcoBoost powerplant has won (at time of\npublishing) 10 International Engine of the Year awards, including overall\nwinner three times.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>So why all the acclaim? Well, it\u2019s largely because <a href=\"https:\/\/www.stoneacre.co.uk\/new-cars\/ford\">Ford<\/a> has managed to combine the likes of great fuel economy, low emissions and very useable performance from such small engines. For example, the three-cylinder 1.0-litre unit can deliver up to 140ps (138-ish bhp), which used to only be viable through a bigger 1.6-litre powerplant.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Such things are achievable through, once again, direct\ninjection, where the fuel enters the combustion chamber in a highly pressurised\nmanner. This enables the engine to require only the bare minimum amount of fuel\nwithout hindering performance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image aligncenter size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.stoneacre.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/07\/image-2022-07-04T140233.165.jpg\" alt=\"Ford Ecoboost engine\" class=\"wp-image-11402\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Ford\u2019s EcoBoost technology can be found across most of its range, including the latest <a href=\"https:\/\/www.stoneacre.co.uk\/search?filter[makes]=ford&amp;filter[ranges]=ford-fiesta\">Fiesta<\/a> &amp; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.stoneacre.co.uk\/new-cars\/ford\/focus\">Focus<\/a> ST models, and even the GT supercar.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>EcoBlue is effectively to diesel what EcoBoost is to Ford\u2019s petrol\nengine range. The goal was to ensure this option complies with the stringent\nEuro6 emissions standards, where a 55% reduction of nitrogen oxide (NOx) was\nrequired \u2013 a goal which was very much met.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On older Ford diesel engines, you\u2019ll likely notice the\nacronym \u2018TDCi\u2019 \u2013 what does this stand for?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>TDCi stands for \u2018Turbo Diesel Common-rail\nInjection\u2019<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">Honda and its VTEC technology<\/span><\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>You\u2019ll find many a car enthusiast who gets quite excited at\nthe mention of Honda\u2019s now famed VTEC engine tech.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Expanding out those four letters can actually make things more\nconfusing for the laymen; VTEC stands for \u2018Variable Valve Timing &amp; Lift\nElectric Control\u2019.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Anyone else none-the-wiser? Well, a bit of background\nknowledge first \u2013 in Japan, there is a tax levied on engine displacement (how\nbig they are), so manufacturers based there have been coming up with concepts\nfor years of how to get the best performance from smaller engines.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Forced induction from the likes of turbocharging and even supercharging has been well explored and the former remains a viable option.
