Our Top Five Electric & Hybrid Cars

With the demand for electric and Hybrid cars increasing, we thought we’d take a look at five of our favourites available from our franchises:

The All-New Kia Niro

Introduced in 2016, the Kia Niro is an affordable SUV that is kind to the environment as well as your pocket. Giving you a potential 74.3mpg and emitting only 88g/km of CO2, this 1.6 litre hybrid petrol engine vehicle meets the latest Euro 6 engine emissions legislation and falls under road tax band A.

With top speeds of up to 101mph and acceleration 0-62mph in 11.1 seconds this six-speed semi-automatic car is ideal for the family with five seats and plenty of leg room it also boasts a 373-litre luggage compartment capacity with rear seats upright and a whopping 1371-litres with rear seats folded.

Safety and Security is always important and the Kia Niro comes with 25 safety and security features as standard. This includes airbags, ABS, Electronic Stability Control, Tyre Pressure Monitoring System and ISOFIX Child Seat Top Tethers and Anchor Fixings.

Kia Soul EV

The all-electric Kia Soul EV is completely road tax exempt with zero CO2 emissions it also qualifies for congestion charge exemption.  The environmental theme continues within the interior of the EV as it uses environmentally friendly two-tone eco cloth upholstery and bio material fixtures and fittings. The air con system can be adjusted to ‘driver only’ and energy is recycled from the electronics to improve heating efficiency.

The Soul EV can reach 0-62mph in an impressive 10.8 seconds and has a top speed of 90mph, making it an ideal urban city car for day-to-day driving.

At home it can take up to 13 hours to recharge from a domestic plug, using a fast charger can take around four to five hours and a public rapid charger can take as little as 33 minutes.

Taking safety seriously the Kia Soul EV comes with six airbags and has active safety features including Brake Assist, Electronic Stability Control, ABS and Vehicle Stability Management. It also features an eight-inch touchscreen satellite navigation system helping you get from A-to-B.

Ford Mondeo Hybrid

Now in its fourth generation, the Ford Mondeo continues to be one of the most recognisable and reliable cars around. As such, the technology available has been developed alongside it to ensure that the Mondeo Saloon 2.0 Hybrid Titanium 4dr Auto offers consumers the very best value for their money.

Ford Mondeo Hybrid

This classic family car still offers a dynamic design in order to increase its performance and efficiency, it uses regenerative braking to recharge the 1.4 kWh lithium-ion battery and even with its 2.0-litre six-speed diesel engine it offers a low 92g/km CO2 emission and a combined 70.6mpg. The start/stop option allows you to consume less fuel whilst your car is idle in traffic. It can reach 0-62mph in just 9.2 seconds and has a max speed of 116mph, making it a good all-rounder in the city and on the motorway.

Safety features include ABS and EBA, airbags and an Intelligent Protection System. Security as standard includes keyless entry and start, remote control central double locking and a Thatcham Category 1 alarm.

Ford Focus Electric

In its third generation, the Ford Focus has been re-designed to offer a more sculpted look on the exterior and more space on the interior. It includes a range of new technologies developed specifically for Ford including the Ford SYNC 2 with voice control and touch screen, allowing you to control the car’s climate, navigation and entertainment systems.

The Ford Focus Electric is one of Ford’s first 100% electric cars; this is good news for drivers in cities such as London as this car is exempt from congestion charges and is in Road Tax Band A. Using only electricity to power the motor of this car makes its cheaper to run than petrol and diesel engines. The electric motor is quiet generating little or no noise pollution.

The Focus Electric uses an automatic transmission and can achieve 0-62mph in 11 seconds. With a massive 1215-litre seats down and 316-litre seat up luggage capacity, this EV has a top speed of 84mph making it ideal for driving around the city and doing the family shop.

Safety and security features as standard include airbags, ABS, Emergency Brake Assist, Immobiliser and keyless start and entry.

Volvo XC90 Hybrid

The Volvo XC90 2.0 T8 Hybrid Momentum is the fastest car in the list reaching 0-62 mph in just 5.6 seconds and it has a top speed of 140 mph, it is also the most economical with a potential 134.5mpg combined and CO2 emissions of 49g/km and whilst it is one of the more expensive PHEV, long term servings will be made through reduced fuel consumption and road tax.

Alongside multiple airbags, all seven seats are fitted with 3 point seatbelts offering maximum safety for you and your passengers. Other safety features include pedestrian and cyclist detection, front whiplash protection system and electronic parking brake with auto hold.

Volvo XC90 Hybrid

This family friendly car has plenty of boot space with a seat up capacity of 316 litres and a huge seat down capacity of 1816 litres.

The XC90 T8 Hybrid is able to travel up to 27 miles solely powered through electric. There are four modes available to drive the car. Hybrid Mode uses both the electric and fuel engine, Pure Mode uses only the electric motor and is ideal for short trips, Power Mode uses the fuel engine and Save Mode allows you to conserve battery charge so that it is available for later on in your journey. Charging the XC90 T8 Hybrid takes between 2.5 and 7 hours depending upon the charging station used.
