Raising Awareness for Lupus

By: Lisa Harper

Did you know October is Lupus Awareness Month? To help support this amazing cause here at the Stoneacre head office we’ve been busy raising funds and awareness. Lupus UK is dedicated to helping people with this incurable immune system illness to live full and active lives.

The whole head office got involved paying three pounds to dress down for the day; with staff asked to wear purple, the charity’s colour, if possible. There was a number of activities going on throughout the day to help generate even more funds. This included;

  • A bake sale with staffs home-baked goodies available from 50p
  • A book stall with books available from 50p
  • A raffle with a variety of prizes including chocolates, spirits and wine.

The day was a great success and everyone got to tuck into delicious goodies including homemade quiche, chocolate cake and brownies to name just a few. We managed to raise an impressive £950.08!

Learn About Lupus

Lupus is an incurable immune system illness which is mainly suffered by women and is thought to be genetic in origin. People affected by this illness produce too many antibodies which when circulating through the bloodstream can cause inflammatory responses anywhere in the body. The main symptoms of Lupus are joint and muscular pains and extreme lethargy so it can often be hard to diagnose. However, worldwide Lupus is actually more common than Leukaemia, muscular dystrophy and multiple sclerosis.

The main vision of Lupus UK is to try and support sufferers to live a full and active life. To do so they aim to enhance the care available to sufferers while also promoting awareness about the illness to heighten the greater public’s understanding.
