Peugeot Enters The Plug-In Hybrid Market With Three New Models

Peugeot is to join the electric revolution with the release of new Plug-In hybrid technology for three of its popular models the 508, 508SW and 3008. The release of these models forms part of Peugeot’s greater plans to electrify all of its models, with either hybrid or all-electric options available from next year.

Details for these new plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEV) were first released at the Paris Motor Show and the models are set to be released for sale this autumn.

Two different Hybrid systems will be available, ‘Hybrid’ and ‘Hybrid4’. While both systems will be paired to an eight-speed automatic transmission, they will offer slightly different performance. The ‘Hybrid’ system will offer approximately 25-miles of electric-only motoring, whereas the ‘Hybrid4’ system will offer around 30-miles.

The ‘Hybrid’ and ‘Hybrid4’ models incorporate an advanced i-Booster braking system to conserve power as the car brakes or decelerates. While an e-SAVE system allows drivers to reserve energy for the journey.

Both plug-in hybrid systems functions are accessible through the cars Peugeot i-Cockpit infotainment system. This shows information regarding engine efficiency, including electricity and fuel consumption figures. While driving information including driving mode, electric gauge level and available electric distance are displayed in the driver’s field of vision.

For complete versatility, both ‘Hybrid’ and ‘Hybrid4’ will be available in four driving modes; zero, sport hybrid and comfort. Zero relies solely on an electric motor, Sport combines electric motor and the engine for ultimate performance, Hybrid automatically switches between the two systems depending on need and finally Comfort uses settings from Hybrid mode, but with softer suspension.

The new Peugeot 508 and 508 SW plug-in hybrids

The new Peugeot 508 and 508 SW is available with the ‘Hybrid’ system. It employs a 178bhp PureTech petrol engine with a 108bhp electric motor for a combined power of 222bhp. This system emits less than 49g/km CO2 and has an impressive WLTP range of 217mpg.

The charging system fits neatly under the boot floor, so there is no compromise when it comes to storage. The Peugeot 508 still offers an impressive 487-litres while the 508SW offers 530-litres. What’s more, as the PHEV 508 and 508SW is available on Allure, GT Line and GT model cars you get the versatility to specify the car to your heart’s content.

The new Peugeot 3008 plug-in hybrids

For the new Peugeot 3008, Peugeot has opted to make use of the slighter punchier ‘Hybrid4’ system. Maximum power is 296bhp, thanks to the combination of the 197bhp PureTech petrol engine and two electric motors (one located at each axle) delivering 108bhp. This means 0-62mph is possible in just 6.5 seconds. However, the slightly less powerful ‘Hybrid’ system will be available at a later date.

The ‘Hybrid4’ system not only offers more power but comes with four-wheel-drive capabilities with a multi-link rear suspension. This helps improve traction on bumpy roads and challenging road conditions. So whether you are facing wet, muddy or snowy conditions or winding roads, the 3008 PHEV will keep you stable.

The multi-link rear axle also helps to improve comfort for rear passengers ensuring they enjoy a smooth and uninterrupted ride-quality. Plus just like with the 508 and 508SW, it has no impact on the amount of space offered by the new Peugeot 3008 PHEV.

The new 3008 PHEV will initially only be available in GT versions so it will offer extra luxury and on-board comfort. An exclusive full mistral black leather interior is accompanied by ‘Grey Oak’ trim. While a host of advanced driving technologies, including cruise control with Stop and Go function and lane positioning assist, will help to keep you safer on every commute.

When it comes to charging the new 3008 PHEV will be available to fully-charge in just one hour and 45minutes using a 7.4kW wallbox charger. Peugeot will offer the new 3008 with the option of the ‘Hybrid’ system at a later date.
