Contemporary new Renault Captur unveiled

04 Apr 2024 by Sam Bisby

Rebooted and upgraded for a 2024 launch, Renault has unveiled its latest iteration of the Captur, its ever-popular compact crossover.

Dubbed the ‘B-segment car for living’, the new Captur has been redesigned in line with the recently updated Clio and the revived Scenic.

The new Captur looks to be versatile and multi-talented, offering a compact exterior and a spacious cabin – Renault even describes the new Captur as ‘modular’, and can adapt to the needs of the modern family.

A dynamic refresh

If there was one directive when looking to update the visuals of the Captur, it was to make them more dynamic.

With the new Captur now available in the performance-orientated Esprit Alpine trim, this has been very much realised thanks to its athletic build and premium styling.

Renault’s new signature lighting takes centre stage at the front of the car, while the new Captur will continue to be available with two-tone bodywork.

The lighting of the new Captur features full LED technology as standard across the range. Matching the Clio, LED daytime running lights take on a vertical half-diamond shape, inspired by the Renault logo itself.

Offering an elegant and technological look, the frontend of the new Captur showcases the Nouvel’R one-piece logo, accompanied by a higher and more horizontal bonnet to offer a stronger identity for the crossover.

At the rear, the new Captur now features transparent housing for its lighting, creating a revealing effect for the light units inside.

This, combined with the new logo and redesigned diffuser, ensure the new Captur showcases its contemporary look at all angles.

A total of six body colours are available, including the new Ceramic Grey offering – optional on the Techno trim and standard on the Esprit Alpine is the two-tone colour scheme, which puts the roof and door mirrors in Diamond Black.

A richer interior experience

Renault has ensured that the upmarket feel of the exterior continues on the inside of the new Captur.

The car’s dashboard is a highlight of this philosophy, with the OpenR Link multimedia system and screen of up to 10.25in creating a truly modern feel right away.

Elsewhere, new upholstery on all trim levels help give the new Captur a more premium look and feel, no matter the version – though no leather or chrome features, as Reanult works toward phasing out animal-derived materials by 2025.

An array of standard equipment on the Esprit Alpine trim, meanwhile, creates a sporty ambiance.

Featured on Techno and Esprit Alpine trims, the OpenR Link multimedia system with Google built-in brings hugely modern applications, not least Android Automotive 12 – a first for a B-segment car.

Cabin space in the new Captur looks set to be among the best in the market, with passenger knee room of 221mm available at the rear thanks to an intelligent rear bench design that sees it slide back as much as 16cm.

Modular loading space helps the boot become as practical as ever, with a total volume of 536 litres with the rear bench pushed fully forwards. Meanwhile, with the rear bench folded, load length is set at 1.57m.

High standards of efficiency

Taking advantage of Renault’s innovative E-Tech hybrid technology, the new Captur benefits from a 145bhp E-Tech full hybrid powertrain option.

The configuration offers economy of up to 60.1mpg, while CO2 emissions are rated at just 105g/km – there is even an E-SAVE function that, when activated, maintains a battery charge of at least 40%.

A smart automatic transmission, meanwhile, ensures the new Captur with the E-Tech hybrid is easy to drive no matter the situation.

There is also a three-cylinder, 90bhp petrol option available, which makes use of a six-speed manual transmission.

Top-end safety

The new Renault Captur is on par with the best for both active and passive safety features.

A total of 18 new-generation driving aids feature on the new Captur, spanning across safety, driving and parking.

Intelligent speed assistance is available through traffic sign recognition, while a button on the steering wheel can activate the speed limiter, cruise control or adaptive cruise control to adapt automatically to the legal speed limit.

Additional equipment includes Automatic Braking System, Lane Keeping Assist, Lane Departure Warning and Driver Drowsiness Alert.

Parking sensors feature not just at the front and rear, but also at the side.
