Citroen are shaking up the compact hatchback segment with the brand new Citroen C4. Bringing unique Citroen flair along with SUV-inspired style, the new C4 is more dynamic than before.
Citroen is known for daring to do things differently and the new C4 is no exception. The new silhouette marks the beginning of a new Citroen style.
Combining the elevated and assertive stance of an SUV to an otherwise elegant and streamlined hatch brings a fresh sense of dynamism. With 156mm ground clearance, it rides higher than class-leaders like the Ford Focus and Volkswagen Golf and offers great views of the road ahead.
It’s larger than many of its rival models too. At 4,360mm long, 1,800mm wide and 1,525mm it’s fair to say the new C4 is fairly substantial for a hatch.
From the front, v-shaped signature lights and chrome chevrons stretching the width of the vehicle offer a robust edge. While the bonnet reflects the C5 Aircross SUV with its concave shape which is finished in a matte black effect. The chunky SUV style wheel arches feature the same matt black finish, which is said to offer some protection against small impacts.
Elegance comes from the sloping roof which emphasises the aerodynamics of this new look Citroen C4.
As more car manufacturer’s churn out electric versions of their models, it’s not surprising Citroen has announced an all-electric version of the new C4. The e-C4, will sit alongside both petrol and diesel powertrains giving buyers ample choice.
The e-C4 features a 50kWh battery with 136bhp and is capable of 217-mile WLTP cycle. Regenerative braking will help boost power when braking or decelerating. While different drive modes will alter engine power to boost power or range.
It is similarly styled to conventionally fuelled models, with only subtle differences like a lack of tailpipe and exclusive 18-inch Crosslite alloy wheel design. These wheels it’s worth noting are claimed to suppress vibration helping to improve cabin noise, surely a huge plus.
Plus charging the e-C4 is a doddle. A 7kWh wall box charger is capable of charging the vehicle in just over seven hours. While a 100kWh fast charger will boost power by eighty per cent in just thirty minutes. Plus with a smartphone charging app available, you are always in control.
The petrol C4 offers a 1.2-litre three-cylinder with 100,130 or 155bhp powertrains. While the 1.5-litre diesel offers both 110 and 130bhp outputs and offers both six-speed manual and eight-speed automatic transmissions.
While the interior has undergone a gentler re-styling than the exterior, it delivers all the technology and comfort you could want. The redesigned centre console offers Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and smartphone charging. While the ten-inch digital dashboard and instrument cluster delivers vital information right where you need it.
A full HD camera which is capable of taking photos and videos is built into the rear-view mirror. While a host of twenty driver assistance features from Highway Driving Assist to Adaptive Cruise Control offer extra protection on every journey.
The 380-litre boot capacity is available across all new C4 models including the e-C4, meaning you have plenty of room for luggage. Plus with sixteen cabin storage compartments, there’s an additional 39-litres of capacity for keeping your essentials close at hand.
A real plus for anyone regularly making long journeys is Citroen’s comfort boosting ride technology. Both the new C4 and new e-C4 are fitted as standard with Citroen’s Progressive Hydraulic Cushion suspension, which uses hydraulic stops to reduce bouncing and help make the ride smoother. While inside Citroen’s Advanced Comfort seats offer premium comfort and also offer optional heating and massage systems. While the six interior colour schemes have been designed to be reminiscent of your living room to make you feel instantly at home.
