Citroën has been recognised for its innovation in electric vehicles with the presentation of a prestigious ‘Green Hero’ award from Electrifying.com. The Oli [All-ë] concept, which was unveiled earlier this year at the Geneva Motor Show, impressed the judges with its clean sheet design and focus on sustainability. This is a major coup for Citroën and further confirmation of its status as a leader in electric vehicle technology.

Green Hero Award

With an impressive 40kWh battery and a range of 248 miles, Citroën’s Oli concept showcases sustainability principles in design through the strategic use of recycled materials that are also recyclable as well as reduce weight for longer-lasting performance—showcasing innovative family-friendly features to create a future vision on electric transportation.

Vincent Cobée, Citroën Global CEO, commented: “Oli represents the next steps in Citroën’s e-mobility journey, showcasing just what’s possible with the clever use of materials and technology. For Citroën, the future isn’t about ever-bigger batteries, increased EV range and massive electric SUVs. Instead, we believe it’s time to think about how to do things differently, and better. Oli is a real-world representation of this philosophy, and crucially it aligns with our fundamental belief in vehicle affordability, accessibility and the circular economy. We are very pleased to receive this ‘Green Hero’ award from Electrifying.com, which recognises the importance of this vision for the future.

Electrifying.com’s prestigious ‘Green Hero’ award recognises brands who are taking the lead in electric vehicle sustainability, with a special focus on cutting-edge manufacturing techniques that reduce carbon emissions and rare-earth metals usage, as well as progressive design to optimise shipping efficiency and encourage the recycling of materials. The competition assesses how each brand is advancing environmental initiatives from cradle to grave – ensuring both today’s cars and tomorrow’s vehicles stay green for generations.

With Oli, Citroën offers a bold reimagining of electric mobility. Its innovative design uses sustainable and recyclable materials to reduce production costs while making the zero-emissions vehicle both efficient and long-lasting. A combination of clever engineering, environmental responsibility, and affordability – all combined with the renowned inventiveness that makes Citroen unique – quite an exciting step into the future!

Oli is a revolution in eco-friendly transportation. It is equipped with Vehicle-to-Grid capability that allows owners to make money off of their vehicle’s renewable energy by selling it back to the grid. Also, by cutting the number of components for doors and seats simplifies production processes by reducing weight, while tyre longevity has been drastically increased through sustainable materials – boasting an estimated 310,000 miles throughout its lifetime. Plus, all parts are 100% recyclable too.

Speaking on the subject, Ginny Buckley, founder and CEO of Electrifying.com, said: “To say that OIi is the most important electric car we’ve seen in a decade is a big claim; but alongside a host of excessive, expensive electric cars Oli stands out for its thoughtful approach to minimising its environmental footprint, the ground-breaking use of recycled materials and its fresh, creative design. Many manufacturers talk about sustainability, but it’s refreshing to see Citroën actually putting it at the heart of what it does.”

Citroën’s ‘Green Hero’ accolade was awarded by a panel of leading industry experts, including Ginny Buckley (Founder and CEO of Electrifying.com), Charlie Simpson (UK Future Mobility Lead, Advanced Manufacturing and Mobility, Ernst & Young), Dr Andy Palmer (Automotive executive, former COO of Nissan and CEO of Aston Martin Lagonda), and Tom Barnard (Editor-in-Chief, Electrifying.com).
