Introducing the brand new Suzuki Swift Sport; arguably Suzuki’s best hot hatch to date. Whether you were fan of its predecessor or are a Suzuki virgin, we’re confident that you’ll be suitably impressed with what the new Swift Sport has to offer.
As car manufacturers compete for better performance, Suzuki has taken a slightly different approach. By reducing the weight of the latest Suzuki Swift Sport by 80kg it now weighs in at an impressively low 970kg, making it one of the lightest hot hatches currently on the market. Team this with the new turbo-charged 1.4-litre-four-cylinder booster jet engine and you get exhilarating hot hatch acceleration.
Peak power is up by 4bhp to 138bhp but its the torque where Suzuki have made vast improvements. Up by a whopping 44% there’s 170lb ft delivered between 2500rpm-3000rpm, little over half the revs you need to use. What’s more in the new Swift Sport you can get from 0-62mph in just 8.1secs. Whilst the 130mph top speed means you’re sure to get great performance from this pocket rocket.
The bold new design is sure to delight. The stance is lower and features wider aggressive muscular shoulders. The grille shape has been altered, lowered and thrust forward to ensure it takes centre stage. Whilst the new LED headlights are more aggressively slanted giving the front of the new Swift Sport an angry front profile.
The exterior is also equipped with requisite sporty features including carbon-look Suzuki under spoilers, a roof spoiler, wide-spaced exhaust tips and unique two-tone 17” alloy wheels.
Inside the new Suzuki Swift Sport you get equally sporty design. The black bucket seats feature red edge stitching which complements the red highlights featured all through the cabin. The instrument panel features a LCD display which delivers a wealth of information like fuel consumption, average speed over five-minute increments, lateral acceleration, turbochargers boosting efforts and forces of acceleration and braking. It’s a great feature usually found on models with a much bigger price tag.
The old adage ‘if it isn’t broke don’t fix it’ is apparent with the new Swift Sport’s suspension. Suzuki has only made small adjustments to ensure that handling is fully enhanced without sacrificing day to day ride quality.
Whilst lightweight the latest Suzuki Swift Sport is far from light on features. Keeping you safe is a host of driver assistance including autonomous emergency braking, lane correction, drowsiness monitoring and advanced forward pedestrian detection. The lane correction can be turned off if desired allowing a more intuitive driver centred experience. As radar provision is required for driver assistance features you’ll also benefit from adaptive cruise control as standard.
Ensuring you stay entertained whilst cruising the seven-inch touchscreen infotainment system features MirrorLink technology which is compatible with both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. For comfort the new Swift Sport benefits from climate control whilst making the driving more convenient is a reversing camera which will help to make parallel and reverse parking a doddle.
The new Suzuki Swift Sport offers drivers a well-rounded package; it’s compact, practical, fun and affordable. It combines all that was good with old-school hot hatches with modern day technology and safety.
