The Geneva Motor Show is arguably the greatest event on the motoring calendar. With a variety of new cars launched from everyday run-arounds to sporty supercars, the Geneva Motor Show is a car lover’s paradise.

Cupra has launched at Geneva as a fully-fledged sub-brand of SEAT, bringing along the Cupra Ateca to prove their mettle. Already labelled by automotive experts at Geneva as ‘very cool’ we think the Cupra brand is set for good things. The Cupra Ateca is claimed to have hot hatch performance with SUV practicality. The Ford Ka+ has had a facelift with a tweaked exterior to make it more visually appealing. It features larger headlights and new front grilles with chrome surrounds. Both the Ka+ and Ka+ Active feature updated technology including Ford’s latest infotainment technology and will come with the option of a diesel engine.
The Ford Ka+ Active will join a handful of city car crossovers now on the market, and will satisfy the public’s growing love affair with SUV styled vehicles.
The latest Honda CR-V has been on sale in the US for around a year but the latest European spec has been revealed at Geneva. This 5th generation model will offer a new hybrid version featuring Honda’s Intelligent Multi-Mode Drive (i-MMD), which utilises fuel and electrical energy in the most efficient way possible. It is wider, taller and longer than previous versions so as a result inside space is improved.
Hyundai has committed to focusing their efforts on finding alternatively fuelled vehicles and the Hyundai Kona Electric is testament to this. Offering a completely unique selling proposition the Kona is sure to be as popular with the carbon conscious, as it is with those looking for a fantastic small SUV. The 4th generation of the Santa Fe is larger than previous models and offers a new updated sharper, tougher look. It features new look modern lighting configurations and a new robust bumper and tailgate. It’s thought that a hybrid version could be coming soon however it’s yet to be confirmed. Hyundai has promised the new Santa Fe will offer unrivalled levels of space within the seven seat SUV market, so it’ no surprise the latest Santa Fe version is both longer and wider than its predecessor.
Well the first thing of note is the apostrophe has gone from the name! But that aside the improvements to this 3rd generation model are vast. With a less rounded exterior the new Ceed is sportier in appearance. It’s larger than before with improved passenger space and an impressive 395L boot space. The interior has had an overhaul too, with massive improvements made to quality and technology, the Ceed is set to become one of the most high tech in its class.
Kia has also relaunched the Kia Sportswagon. With all the updated features of the Ceed, it is equally as impressive, but offers more space.
The Kia Optima is set to take pride of place at Kia’s stand. With revised interior and exterior styling Kia has upped the edge on its latest Optima. Whilst full specification is yet to be released it is thought there will be a host of safety features and driver assistance available and at least two new engines.
The updated Kia Optima GT has athletic appeal that will leave a lasting impression and the updated interior gives a sportier edge.
Europe’s best-selling plug-in hybrid has had an update. With an improved battery that promises a 15% increase in capacity and a 10% increase in output, it should offer better performance whilst managing to cover a similar range all-electric. The exterior has been updated with a large rear spoiler, 18” alloy wheels and a substantial and tough looking front grille. Whilst inside Mitsubishi has added quilted leather seats.
The new Volvo V60 is sure to be a hit with anyone looking for a reliable family estate. It’s attractive too, borrowing heavily style wise from the stylish V90 and XC60. The interior is sophisticated, with improvements made to on-board technology to improve functionality. As you would expect from Volvo the driver assistance features just get better and better, with the latest V60 offering Pilot Assist and a host of other autonomous drive features.
