The all-electric Hyundai Kona has been launched at the Geneva Motor Show. Already labelled a hugely credible offering by critics we take a look at everything you need to know about the Hyundai Kona Electric.
At launch there will be two battery options available:
• The short range edition will have a 39.2kWh lithium-ion battery which is capable of 186 miles on a single charge, will achieve 0-62mph in 9.3 seconds and will have a top speed of 104mph. A full charge on a home charger is predicted to take just over 6 hours.
• The long range 64kWh lithium-ion battery will be capable of 292 miles and achieve 0-62mph in 7.6 seconds. Charging time will take around 9 hours 40 minutes.
The Hyundai Kona Electric is noticeably different to its conventionally fuelled counterpart. The ride height has been bumped up 15mm and the sleek front grille cleverly incorporates a seamless flap which covers the charging socket.
The interior is more similar to the conventional Kona, however the electric version does see alterations to the centre console to incorporate the controls for the cars shift-by-wire system.
The Electric Kona will come with a 7” touchscreen infotainment system that is compatible with Android and Apple phones, as standard. There will be an optional 8” touchscreen available as an upgrade. Following the lead of many other brands Hyundai has added in a head up display to reduce the need for drivers to take their eyes off the road. It will feature vital information like speed, fuel levels and navigation systems.
The Electric Kona will come with a 373L boot capacity, however this is reduced to 332L when you take into account cable storage.
All in all the Hyundai Kona is definitely a vehicle to be reckoned with. Offering a USP against many of its rivals the Hyundai is an all-electric vehicle that actually offers everyday functionality and practicality, making it perfect for family life. The Kona Electric is set to go on sale this summer so you don’t have long to wait to get behind the wheel yourself!
