Making it to number 7 in our top 10 used cars is…

7. Volkswagen Golf

The Golf has graced our roads since the 70’s and there’s good reason. The Golf has classless appeal, which Volkswagen have skilfully adapted over the years. This has ensured the Golf continues to offer an exceptional drive experience and state of the art technology, which continually challenges its competitors.

One of the most endearing things about the Volkswagen Golf is that even brand new it feels well worth the money. So buying a used Golf you will offer you even better value for money, which we’re sure will leave you feeling ever so slightly smug.

There’s plenty of used Volkswagen Golfs on the market so finding one to suit your requirements and budget shouldn’t be a problem. Whilst most used Golf models hold value well it’s possible to pick one up that’s reasonably priced.  However if you’re set on having a GTi model then expect to pay a little bit more.

The Volkswagen Golf has been the family hatchback against which all others are judged for some time now. The Golfs spacious interior offers more than most of its competitors and easily seats 2 adults in the back and will comfortably seat 3 children. What’s more with a 380L boot capacity there’s plenty of space for luggage. Whilst the 60/40 split rear folding seats mean if you do need to carry bulky items the Golf is more than capable and provides around 1,270L space.

Kit on board the Golf is fairly generous as standard but it’s easy to find used Golfs with enhanced on board entertainment, just expect to pay slightly more. Features include cruise control, DAB radio, electronic parking brake, electric windows, front and rear parking sensors and a 5.8” colour touchscreen to name just a few.

The golf has always had an impressive drive quality and is comfortable and stable to drive at any speed. Whilst the Golf’s sharp steering ensures the Golf really is a pleasure to drive. It copes remarkably well on Britain’s less than perfect roads and seems to absorb bumps. Basic models are superbly comfortable and offer a quiet ride that is enjoyable to drive. Whilst if you opt for a sportier version you get a slightly more thrilling drive experience, yet the level of comfort is still maintained despite firmer suspension.

Both petrol and diesel offerings offer competitive running costs with impressive mpg capabilities and low CO2 emissions. The majority of Golfs have turbo-charged engines to boost power and efficiency and also feature Volkswagen’s BlueMotion fuel-saving measures, including stop-start technology.

If you’re covering more than 10,000 miles a year you might find it’s more economical to look for a diesel. However if you fall short of this figure, the petrol’s offer a punchier drive and are quieter and smoother than some of the diesel engines.

Servicing costs for used Volkswagen Golfs are more than some brands like Ford or Vauxhall but less than brands like Audi. Given that the Golfs drive and handling is on par with the Audi A3, unless you desperately want the Audi badge the Golf is a more economical option.

All of our used Volkswagen Golfs models have a 125-point check carried out as standard to ensure roadworthiness before they are offered for sale. What’s more we also carry out an Experian check to ensure there is no outstanding finance or hidden history. This means you can buy a used Volkswagen Golf from us with confidence.

If you’re not sure that the Volkswagen Golf is right for you why not take a look at some of its competitors. The Audi A3 is the Volkswagen Golfs closest rival, whilst the BMW 1 Series offers style in abundance, the Ford Focus offer great hot hatch handling and the Vauxhall Astra is a great all-rounder.

Please note we record all our calls to ensure that we give you the service you deserve.
