Buying a used car can be a minefield, from choosing the right make and model for your needs to knowing what to look for when you view the car. To make things easier we’ve reviewed 10 of our most popular used car models.
Counting down our top 10 we kick off with…
The Kia Sportage first came onto UK roads back in 1993 and now accounts for over a quarter of Kia’s sales within the UK. Which is great news for those looking for a used Kia Sportage as there’s plenty of choice.
Over its 4 year production period the Kia Sportage MK3 has won numerous awards inclduing Carbuyers Car of the Year 2012 and Car Dealer Magazine Used Car of the Year Award 2014.

If you needed just one reason to buy a used Kia Sportage then we’d go with Kia’s impressive 7 year warranty. The warranty is transferrable to new owners which means you can pick up a used Kia Sportage with a longer warranty period left than many new cars even come with. What’s more if you buy a used Kia Sportage that’s less than 18months old from an approved used dealer like ourselves, the warranty will be topped back up to 7 years! No other car manufacturer is offering anything that can compete, so owning a Kia comes with definite advantages.
Used entry level Kia Sportage models come with a fantastic level of kit as standard like alloy wheels, air-conditioning, all electric windows, rain sensors, Bluetooth and cruise control, which is more than enough for most owners. However should you opt for a higher trim model you’ll also get parking sensors, sun-roof and cruise control. Whilst top spec models offer leather seats, climate control and xenon headlamps.
If you’re buying a Kia Sportage to meet the needs of your growing family, then you’ll be pleased to learn the Kia Sportage scored 5 stars in Euro NCAP testing. This is hardly surprising given that the Sportage is packed with safety features including front, side and curtain airbags, active front head restraints, ISOfix child seat mountings, stability control and hill start assist.
There’s 4 engine options, 2 petrol and 2 diesel. The 2.0L diesel engine is the best option if you want to take advantage of the Kia Sportage 1662-1831kg towing capability. Whilst if you want 4 wheel drive you’ll need to opt for either the 2.0L petrol or 2.0L diesel engine. However for the most economical engine we recommend opting for the 1.7L diesel engine which offers 54mpg and 135g/km CO2.
With a long warranty period Kia have improved peoples trust in their reliability and that trust is well placed. Since 2010 there has only been 2 recalls which is an impressively low figure that many longer standing manufacturers struggle to compete with.
Repairing a used car can be costly however should your used Kia Sportage require any repairs chances are you may still be within your warranty, if not don’t worry as Kia parts are competitively priced and won’t break the bank. As with any car there are a number of regular maintenance jobs that will need to be carried out, for example the brake fluid will need replacing every 2 years and the coolant at 100,000 miles or every 5 years. However as all the models have a timing chain, a costly cam belt change won’t be needed.
