It seems like every manufacturer is joining the small SUV competition, and new to the game is the Hyundai Kona. The South Korean manufacturer has been spending extra time to make sure this one stands out from the competition.
Despite there being a few cars in this segment now, the distinctive shape, quirky interior and outstanding practicality of the Kona means it’s a worthy competitor in the new small SUV market.
This stunning car is a bold statement amongst the Hyundai range, so don’t miss out. You can be one of the first people to have one of these on UK streets, with the Kona hitting the roads as soon as this November. Want to know more? Read on!
#1 Making your life easier
You love city cars, we know. The aesthetics, the personalisation, the economic engines, but you need more space. Perhaps you’ve had your second child and your Hyundai i20 isn’t cutting it anymore. Or maybe you’ve got a Santa Fe and you don’t need a car that big. That’s where the Hyundai Kona comes in.
Small SUVs are ideal for families, people who have busy lives that need a lot of equipment or people who generally need more space. However, the Hyundai Kona is perfect for urban environments, too, as it doesn’t have the bulkiness of a large SUV, so you get all the benefits of a larger car in a smaller package.
The Hyundai Kona is wider than some of the other small SUVs which provides you with a spacious cabin. The boot is rumoured to be a 351-litres, which gives you plenty of space for all your shopping. We know we’re making it hard to choose, but you can’t go wrong with this South Korean masterpiece.
#2 Keeping it fresh and original
For those of you who own city cars, you know how fun it can be to personalise your car to suit your tastes. Until now, you couldn’t do that with a larger car, but that’s all changing. When you get the Hyundai Kona, you get to choose from some unique colours that will make it stand out. When you choose a colour like Acid Yellow, you know you’re going to turn heads. On top of that, the contrasting roof gives it a modern feel, meaning you’ll be the height of fashion.
As well as quirky exterior colours, you can match up the inside to the outside, adding to the overall aesthetics of the car. The stylish interior is home to an 8-inch centre console which helps you to stay connected to all your favourite in-car technology.
Still not sure? You haven’t heard about the engines yet!
#3 Engines to suit your needs
Hyundai wowed the market with its fantastic engines across its model range. For example, the Ioniq has three types of engine to choose from: conventional, hybrid and electric. For now, the Kona only has the choice of two engines, but we’re pretty sure one of them will tickle your fancy.
You choose from a 1.0-litre petrol which gives you a 120PS and only releases 117g/km of CO2. This engine would be perfect for city drivers whose driving habits include short trips. It’s ideal if your main trips are taking the kids to school or nipping down to the shops.
The second choice is a 1.6-litre petrol which gives you 177PS and goes from 0-62mpg in an impressive 8.0 seconds. This engine would suit someone who has a longer daily commute and could use the extra powder when they’re joining the motorway.
For those of you who are eco-conscious, don’t be disheartened! An electric Hyundai Kona is on the cards for the future.
