Actor and producer Matt LeBlanc, best known for his portrayal of the loveable Joey Tribbiani on hit US TV series Friends has today been announced as a host on the all-new Top Gear, fronted by Chris Evans. Who saw that one coming?
48-year-old LeBlanc, the fastest ever ‘Star in a Reasonably Priced Car’ will take up his role alongside Evans for series 23 of the global TV phenomenon when it premieres this May, with fans waiting with baited breath to see what the new Top Gear will bring to the table following the acrimonious departure of Clarkson and co, and their subsequent move to Amazon Prime.
Speaking to the Top Gear website, LeBlanc said: “As a car nut and a massive fan of Top Gear, I’m honoured and excited to be a part of this iconic show’s new chapter.”
He is no stranger to Top Gear, however. After setting that blistering lap time, he appeared in the next series to test the Kia Cee’d against it’s predecessor, before taking The Stig for a spin in the McLaren MP4-12C.
Evans is delighted to be working alongside LeBlanc, stating: “Matt’s a lifelong fellow petrolhead and I’m thrilled he’s joining Top Gear. Acting out our craziest car notions on screen is a dream job and I know we’ll both be debating some epic road trip ideas.”
Top Gear are to set announce further additions to their line-up in the near future.
