Whilst some manufacturers upgrade models by slightly modifying the trim, offering a slight performance improvement or maybe lower emissions - that is certainly not the case with the new Vauxhall VXR8 GTS.
The new Vauxhall VXR8 GTS has been unveiled and it will be offered with the exact same 6.2-litre V8 that shifts the recently revealed Chevrolet Camaro ZL1, fitted with a supercharger, it makes 585hp and 545lb ft of torque. The increase in power is mainly due to the addition of the supercharger, but that’s not the only upgrade as improved cooling and air intake systems and an upgraded exhaust system are both significant factors in this car’s incredible performance.
The VXR8 GTS comes with rear-wheel-drive transmission and the supercharged engine produces 150bhp more than the previous car’s 425bhp. Whilst this is quite the power boost over its predecessor, it increases the price of the car by just £5,000 to £54,999 which Vauxhall says makes it the "least expensive way to buy a new car with more than 500bhp in the UK". Despite the price rise, the car still undercuts the BMW M5 by £19,000 and the Mercedes E63 AMG by £18,000 but is more powerful than both. Prospective buyers have the choice of a six-speed manual or six-speed automatic transmission.
In addition to the three suspension settings, there is also a Driver Preference Dial which enables you to adjust the settings to one of four modes: Touring, Sport, Performance and Track. This changes the settings of the car’s traction control, launch control, stability control and the power steering to optimise the driving experience.
As of yet, there has been no word on performance for the new Vauxhall VXR8 however, the current car is capable of 0-62mph in 4.9 seconds which the new model is being expected to improve upon slightly. The top speed is likely to remain at a 155mph (limited), however it will have the potential to reach that speed a lot faster than the old model.
The new Vauxhall also hosts a plethora of safety technology as standard, including a side blind zone alert, automatic park assist, a reversing camera and a Forward Collision Alert system. The Forward Collision Alert enables the car to apply the brakes when a collision is imminent and warn the driver on the head-up display.
The VXR8 GTS is available to order now from new Vauxhall main dealers such as Stoneacre, however as these aren’t just any car, customers are unlikely to receive their vehicles until December. Information on performance, emissions and economy is expected in early July.
