What is Motability?

10 Great Reasons to Choose Stoneacre Motability

Why Motability is the Hassle-Free Option!
The Motability Car Scheme enables disabled people to obtain a brand new car using their government-funded mobility allowances. At Stoneacre, our Motability specialists are dedicated to making it as easy as possible to choose the right car for you. There’s no credit checks, no assessments and no waiting lists!

How does it work?

95% of our customers choose to lease a car through Motability’s three-year Contract Hire scheme. This gives you:

A new car of your choice every 3 years;
Insurance and personal accident cover;
Servicing and maintenance;
Full breakdown assistance from RAC;
Replacement tyres fitted by Kwik-Fit;
Window or windscreen replacement at no extra cost.

The worry-free policy continues right to the end of your three-year lease. You simply choose a new car and we’ll take care of your old car without the need to sell it yourself or worry about it’s part-exchange value. The only stipulation is that you return your old car free from any damage which may seriously affect its resale value.

If you prefer to buy your own car, then the Hire Purchase scheme could be for you. You fund the purchase price of your new car through a Motability Hire Purchase agreement. However, with Hire Purchase, you will also be responsible for organising and paying for comprehensive insurance, breakdown recovery, your car tax disc, servicing and repairs.

Three Steps to Get Motoring…

Here are the three key steps to a new car through Motability:

1. Choose the car you want:
To help you choose the right car for you please download our helpful guide and visit our offer pages where you’ll find cars available on the scheme by make and model, advance payment and vehicle size.

2. Find your nearest Stoneacre branch: With 29 dealerships representing 12 different manufacturers, you can find your nearest dealer easily using our dealer locator map. You can then make an appointment with one of our Motability Specialists who’ll be happy to help you choose a car, take you for a test drive and go through any optional extras or adaptations which may make your driving easier and more comfortable.

3. Order your car:

Once you’ve decided the exact model of car, your Motability specialist will advise you on delivery times and take you through the easy, online ordering process.

Am I Eligible for a Motability Car?

To lease a car from Motability under the Contract Hire Scheme, you must be receiving either:

Higher Rate Mobility Component (HRMC) of the Disability Living Allowance (DLA) – currently £49.10 per week – or,
War Pensioners’ Mobility Supplement (WPMS) – currently £54.85 per week.

You must have at least 12 months’ award length remaining.

For customers choosing to buy a car with a Hire Purchase agreement, you will need to be receiving the allowance for the full length of your agreement.

Do you need to have a driving licence?

If you opt for our lease agreement you do not need to drive. You can nominate up to two drivers who may be friends or relatives, and parents or carers can apply on behalf of a child aged three years and upwards.

However, proposed drivers must not have any serious driving convictions, disqualifications, or endorsements within the last five years. There are also some restrictions on drivers under 25 and those with provisional licences.
Checking your eligibility:

If you would like assistance checking whether you are eligible for either the Disability Living Allowance or the War Pensioners’ Mobility Supplement, you should contact one of the following agencies:

For enquiries about the Disability Living Allowance (DLA), please contact Disability & Carers Service on 08457 123456 or visit the Directgov website.

For enquiries about the War Pensioners’ Mobility Supplement (WPMS), please contact Service Personnel & Veterans Agency on 0800 169 2277 or visit the Veterans UK website.
What if I Already Own a Car?

We know this can be a sticking point for many people which is why at Stoneacre we offer you the option of trading in your existing privately-owned car. This allows you to use the value of your car against any possible advance payment on your new Motability car, or you can save the money to spend how you wish.

This allows you to keep your existing vehicle until the day you collect your new Motability car; which means you do not have to worry about managing without a car, even for a short time.

The price you agree with us might be lower than you could get if you sold your car privately, however it does mean you avoid the cost and hassle of a private sale.
