World’s fastest Police cars – Top 6

Before we start, I have a confession to make; I know the majority of ‘Top’ lists are Top 5 or Top 10, and our Top 6 is a funny number. But it’s deliberate. Bear with me…I’ll explain all in a moment. But first…

Watch any of the plethora of ‘Live Action’ police shows on TV and you’ll quickly realise that those pesky criminals don’t play by the rules. Why should they, they’re criminals, right? And one of the first entries on the job spec for any criminal endeavour is most probably, break the law.

So it comes as no surprise to see getaway drivers and speeding rogues behind the wheel of a cranked-up machine, outpacing our hard-working boys in blue.

However, in some parts of the world, criminals no longer have the upper hand. Those clever clogs in the Police procurement departments have realised that it is possible to out-drive even the fastest set of criminal wheels, if you have the right equipment. In the spirit of fair play and in an attempt to redress the fuel-injected balance, some forces have invested in a fleet of high-powered, jaw-dropping, collar-feeling super cars. Including, our very own British Bobbies.

Six. McLaren Spider 12C

Back in 2011, Top Brass at Midland’s police splashed out £240,000 on what can only be described as the Best of British – a 207mph McLaren Spider 12C supercar. Powered by a twin-turbo 3.8-litre V8 McLaren engine, the car was capable of reaching 0-60mph in a spine-shivering three seconds, Britain’s fastest jam-sandwich sent criminal drivers scurrying back to their lairs.

Despite its phenomenal performance and crook-catching top speed, the McLaren Spider still doesn’t manage to squeeze into the world’s Top Five fastest police cars. But there was no way we were going to leave Britain’s speediest out, so I made this the first ever, World’s Top Six. See, method to my madness!

Five. Ferrari FF

It probably comes as no surprise to learn that the World’s fifth fastest police car is a red-blooded Italian thoroughbred – the 208mph Ferrari FF. What may come as a surprise however, is the police force that owns this crim-catching Italian stallion; the Dubai Police force.

Super-charged super-cars and the Dubai Police force is a re-occurring theme on my Top 6 list, as you’ll soon discover. Yet, considering the number of millionaires and billionaires cruising the streets of the sun-kissed UAE in their four-wheeled toys, it’s probably a safe bet to assume that Dubai’s police drivers need to slide behind the wheel of the 6.3-litre V12 Ferrari FF just to keep up.

Four. Lamborghini Aventador

Make yourself comfortable, we’ll be staying with our new friends in the Dubai Police Force for some time. Clearly not content with the tarmac-tearing Ferrari FF, Dubai’s boys and girls in blue – actually, they wear green – splashed out in 2014 on the somewhat more spritely 217mph Lamborghini Aventador.

This may have been to keep pace with the wealthy Emirates’ boy racers who, tired of being out-paced by the Ferrari FF, had upgraded their own sets of wheels. Those more cynical observers have suggested that the Aventador’s purchase was simply for reasons of PR (no, not powerful reversing) and designed to glam-up the force’s image to attract more recruits.

Whatever the reason, this 6.5-litre flying machine would certainly deter would-be speeders. Or, simply inspire them to splash out on something even faster?

Three. Aston Martin One-77

That last question brings us nicely to number three on our list of Fastest Police Cars – Britain’s very own Aston Martin One-77.

Propelled by an incredible 7.3-litre V12 engine, Aston Martin’s $2million One-77 (one of only seven ever produced) is capable of a gut-twisting, teeth-clenching top speed of 220mph. This makes it the perfect tool for the Dubai Police Force’s latest mission, to help crackdown on the UAE’s illegal and often fatal road racing scene: Traffic accidents kill one person ever 26 hours in Dubai.

Speed does seem to be part of the culture in the UAE. Many of its residents drive high-powered cars as everyday run-arounds and they know that despite their own fleet of super-cars, the Dubai Police Force will only open a criminal case against a speeder once they are clocked going over 124mph.

Two.  Brabus Rocket

At last, we get to escape the heat of Dubai and head for slightly cooler climes in the 225mph Brabus Rocket. It’s actually a Mercedes-Benz-CLS-Class machine, which should provide a give-away clue as to where this 880bhp jet on wheels can be found – yup, Germany!

Happily for Europe’s growing army of Autobahn cruisers, Germany’s police force isn’t authorised to use the $550,000 V12 Rocket to give chase. It was bought by the German Secretary of Transportation to be the face of a government car safety scheme and will probably never see action out on the public roads. Such a pity, as so few cars in the world could stake a claim to out-pace the Brabus Rocket.

One. Bugatti Veyron

Of course, there’s one notoriously super-speedy car that makes everything on our Top Six list look positively sluggish – the legendary Bugatti Veyron. Capable of reaching a cheek-flapping top speed pf 268mph, and travelling 0-60mph in just an eye-blinking 2.5 seconds, this road-ripping vehicle can be found on the garage of…yup, you’ve guessed it…our friends back in Dubai.

Clearly not content with the collective power of a stable of super-cars containing a Ferrari, a Lamborghini and an Aston Martin, Dubai’s Force coughed up an incredible $1.5million to give the speed-demons of the UAE’s elite, the fright of their lives.

Nothing on those sun-hardened roads is going to match or out-pace the thunderous Bugatti Veyron, so the more sedentary residents of the UAE can rest assured that dangerous drivers are going to be apprehended. Unless, of course, they happen to be behind the wheel of something faster; such as a F15 Jet Fighter, a Red Bull F1 car, or…the 270mph Hennessey Venom GT. Cue another purchase order from our favourite Police procurement department?
