Proud to see familiar faces on 2017 European Car of the Year list

Europe’s magnificent seven has just been announced as finalists for the prestigious 2017 European Car of the Year award. The cars in question were selected by a panel of 58 journalists from 22 European countries, having been part of an initial shortlist of over 30 vehicles.

We’re pleased to say that of the seven, five belong to brands available from Stoneacre – Alfa Romeo, Nissan, Citroen, Peugeot and Volvo. So let’s take a look at our finalists, car by car:

Alfa Romeo Giulia

First, one of the favourites to scoop the 2017 award, Alfa Romeo’s head-turning new Giulia. The car’s curved and sporty styling combines with Alfa’s legendary driveability, to create a car that feels as good behind the wheel as it looks out on the road. See it here, or at our branches in Chesterfield and Wolverhampton. A worthy challenger for honours!

Volvo S90

Next up is the elegant Volvo S90. Packed with the latest tech and styled to continue Volvo’s evolutionary look, the sophisticated S90 business cruiser or family car throws a well-aimed challenge at the established sector leaders, BMW and Audi. Volvo’s contender can be found here, or at our branches in Chesterfield, Grimsby and Lincoln.

Nissan Micra

A dark-horse for the 2017 title could be Nissan’s soon to be revamped and re-launched Micra. This is a real step-change from previous versions, offering drivers a sleek new look, impressive driveability and an innovative tech-pack that will have rivals like the Ford Fiesta and VW Polo nervously looking over their shoulders. Read more about the Micra here, and see it when it arrives at our specialist branch in Worksop.

Citroen C3

Citroen’s quirky C3 states the case for the mega-popular super-mini sector. Compact yet surprisingly spacious, with eye-catching styling and outstanding fuel economy, Citroen’s best-seller is small enough to tackle the city and large enough to transport the whole family. Get a closer look here, or get up close at our branches in Chesterfield, Hyde and Wrexham.

Peugeot 3008 SUV

Finally, Peugeot’s brand new 3008 SUV throws its hat in the ring for the 2017 gong. Set to become Peugeot’s flagship model, the 3008 SUV comes armed with an incredible tech-pack, a punchy yet aerodynamic body and a driving experience that few cars can match.

Peugeot says its 3008 SUV is the most advanced car it has ever sold. Little wonder that it’s in the running for car of the year. See our blog for more info. Or check out the 3008 at our Peugeot branches in Dewsbury, Halifax, Harrogate, Stafford, Stoke and Wigan.

The final two nominees are the Mercedes-Benz E-Class and Toyota’s C-HR. Of the manufacturers shortlisted, only Volvo has never won the prestigious award, which is a little surprising. Should the Nissan Micra bag the big prize, it will become only the fourth car ever to win the award twice: the others are Renault’s Clio, the VW Golf and last year’s winner, Vauxhall’s Astra.

And the winner is…

The winner will be announced in March at the Geneva Motor Show. Good luck to each of our brands – may the best car win!
