The latest in a line of hot Volvos has been revealed in the form of the Volvo V60 Polestar, and this model is cooking up to be one of the best yet.
A car for lovers of fast estates, the V60 Polestar is a mean sounding machine for something that can comfortably seat five. A claimed 0-62mph time of just 4.9sec might set the premise of what this car is all about and how different it is to your usual executive or family Volvo.
The V60 Polestar can achieve such a swift sprint time thanks to its 3.0-litre turbocharged six-cylinder engine that pumps out a superb 345bhp at 5700rpm. Acceleration is helped further by big torque levels that can reach up to 369lb ft.
Polestar’s influence continues under the bonnet with a brand new intercooler for the V60, as well as a performance exhaust that beefs up the engine note. Power is channelled through a specially made six-speed automatic gearbox that is operated through steering-mounted paddles.
The new transmission heralds faster gear changes, whilst launch control is another addition to the V60 Polestar and something seldom seen on other Volvo models. A new Haldex four-wheel drive system helps distribute torque levels efficiently and a re-calibrated stability control system keeps the fast Swede planted, uprated performance brakes also help the cause.
As well as its already impressive 0-62mph time, the V60 Polestar can reach 124mph in a brisk 17.7sec before hitting a limited 155mph.
To help in the corners, Polestar has also tuned the chassis by adding a new Ohlins shock absorber system in combination with the 20-inch alloys and performance tyres. A new front splitter and rear diffuser aid air distribution and aerodynamics underneath the car.
On the inside you can find a new steering wheel accompanied by sports seats that increase comfort and support the driver according to Polestar.
The rapid V60 will be joined by the S60 Polestar model in the UK, with the former on sale on British shores in June of next year on a limited production run, with Volvo to release the exact numbers and pricing closer to the car’s launch.
