Dating back as far as the last decade of the 19th century, the UK automotive industry has given birth to many of the worlds premium marques such as Aston Martin and Bentley. By the 1950s the UK was the second-largest manufacturer and exporter of automobiles in the world.
Subsequent decades brought considerably lower growth than competitors such as France and Germany. Although, currently ranked the 12-largest producer of automobiles in the world, the UK is still a major force in the automotive industry.
